What are some natural hypoglycemia treatments

Hypoglycemia is a condition where there is low blood sugar. Symptoms of this include anxiety, trembling, heart palpitations, sweating, and dilated pupils. Many symptoms can occur or become more severe after eating. It is important to consult a physician if these symptoms are present to rule out more serious complications. However, there are many natural ways to reduce effects and control the condition.

A healthy diet is essential in treating hypoglycemia. Eliminating sugar from the diet, or greatly reducing it proves to have positive results. This includes candy, cookies, pastries and other types of sweets commonly eaten. Care should also be taken to reduce the amount of alcohol and caffeine intake. Choose foods high in complex carbohydrates and high in fiber. It is also important to eat regularly at the same time each day. Do not skip meals or delay meals unnecessarily. Foods with artificial sweeteners can also prove damaging, and reducing the amount of this type of food will benefit greatly. Get in the habit of reading the labels on food products to avoid hidden ingredients.

Use of nutritional supplements will also alleviate symptoms of hypoglycemia. Chromium, fish oil and magnesium have been proven good dietary supplements. Chromium is especially recommended as a diet supplement. Also, selenium and N-acetyl cysteine are recommended. Vitamin additions to the diet may be helpful. The most common vitamin recommendation is niacinamide. Alternately, add the use of a multivitamin.

There are psychological conditions that may cause the onset of hypoglycemia and it is important to reduce those factors. Ensure a full night’s sleep is attained as sleeplessness can aggravate symptoms. Learning relaxation techniques will also help. Try meditation or other calming exercises to reduce stress levels. Learn to control the rhythm of breathing in case of distress. This calming ability will help offset any ill effects.

Being active and exercising is a valuable health benefit. Not only does it keep the body healthy and reduce possible effects of hypoglycemia, it also is a relaxation technique. Do not overdo it, however. Exercise at a comfortable level several times per week, employing aerobic fitness such as walking, using a treadmill or bicycling.

Hypoglycemia is a condition that affects millions of people worldwide. The numbers are rising steadily with more people eating foods high in sugar. This condition is easily controlled, though, with the use of proper diet, exercise and supplements. Small changes in lifestyle can greatly reduce the ill effects of hypoglycemia symptoms.

A bedtime story for a new day

Every child loves a bedtime story. Good stories inspire the imagination and create a sense of drama and suspense. Stories are as old as the bible and as new as the latest published book.

There are many different type of bedtime stories, but the best ones are stories that moms and dads can read to their children; a story that grandparents can share with their grandchildren. Every good story invites the reader to ask the question, “What’s coming next?” So, too, a good bedtime story intrigues readers, helps them sleep well, and gets them excited to greet a new day when they wake up.

Today, many people live in fear. Boys and girls are caught up in this negative way of thinking because the stories they hear are filled with violence and terrorism that destroy human relationships. These stories feed upon misunderstanding, intolerance, and hatred–lumbering along like dinosaurs that trample millions in the wake of their steps to make a world of fear, anxiety, and darkness. It is time for the light of a new day—a day of understanding, peace, and love in our world. It is time to respect the dignity of every person whose unique differences make creation what God intended it to be. May we wake up to a new day when we celebrate the riches of our diversity.

A brand new book, The Rainbow Chronicles: A Bedtime Story for a New Day offers a positive alternative. Dads and sons, moms and daughters can read this book and make the story grow into something beautiful. Our world needs old and young people to share their beauty and join with the grandeur of all people. Our world needs the positive examples of adults to be role models who inspire young people to live joy-filled, positive lives. Our world needs the faith, prayers, and effort of young people to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ, like petals of the dark-purple tulips, so that future generations will wake up to a better day.

Each of us is called to be a dwelling place for the Rainbow’s End. Each of us is invited to welcome the Throne of the Almighty into our hearts. No matter what belief system, physical appearance, gender, age, family background, race, or ethnic heritage, whether married or single, I encourage you to make a difference for good in the way you and your family touch the lives of others through loving actions.

So, what is coming next? More dinosaurs or more flowers? A desert or a garden? In many ways, it’s up to you! Make sure to buy, read and act on this book. May you bring the Rainbow’s End home to yourself, your family, neighborhood, and community, your place of worship, and yes, to the ends of our earth. May you strive to help others write The Rainbow Chronicles in their lives. May the breath of the Almighty, the Holy Spirit, always whisper love in and through you.

Your next pr nightmare could be only a click away

:
In the age of Enron and failed intelligence, scandals remain the rage of the front page. Companies want to see positive spin and not scandal related material published. Imagine for a moment the educational software site where employees are identified as regular visitors to pornography websites. The effect to such a company’s image could be devastating.

Leaks, Peeks & Sneaks

There are numerous security risks facing companies with internal networks. Primary among their concerns are stifling leaks and backdoors that allow hackers to penetrate their firewalls. But the threat from within the company may prove to be more devastating to a company’s reputation and subsequently their stock value and much more.

Employees face a four-pronged attack from blended threats across the board. Phishing and pharming are two of the more popular attacks that face Internet users everyday. Typically sent via email, phishing attacks depend on the concern of an employee to take care of matters ranging from personal to financial. The uneducated user will click an embedded link and leave the network vulnerable to an attack.

The sophistication of these attacks can penetrate even the most complex of security systems unless user error can be compensated for. The most popular forms of phishing involve instant messaging and emails. Despite the widely known understanding of spoofing, most users do not expect to receive messages from spoofed accounts.

Increasing a systems security perimeter can block instant messaging ports and prevent such external security breaches. Network security devices can also block web requests to URLs presented in instant messages. Better still, URLs or web requests from internal users can be compared to a database of acceptable websites and disallowed or denied if they do not match.

Living on the Fringe

Installing spyware and malware is another by-product of visiting less than secure websites. Internet users are often besieged by offers for free software, free access and freebies. The lure of the freebie is as potent if not more so on the Internet than it is in real life. Downloading such freebies can come with passenger programs designed to record keystrokes and much more.

The least of the problems that spyware can commit is to tie up bandwidth and computer memory. The worst is that it can actually spawn Internet attacks to other sites, download critical data and send it elsewhere. Employees do not have to be lured just by a freebie either. They can simply make a typo in submitting a URL and find themselves in the wrong Internet neighborhood. Clever programmers can generate pop-up windows and disguise a button with a simple label like ‘close’ and the user will click it, thinking they will only close the nuisance window. Some programs on high-speed network access can be downloaded in the blink of an eye, compromising the computer and potentially the network.

One-Click Scandals

Scandals need very little fuel to fire. A user who chooses to go to a website of questionable integrity and intent and a user who is lured there by a bad link or a typo offer the same type of danger to a company. Scandals do not have to make the front page to generate reputation-damaging issues for a company.

Word of mouth is as fast a delivery service for reputation sabotage as press reporting is. A network security company that cannot protect against hacking of their website does not engender trust or confidence. A financial investment firm that is accused of insider trading when emails and instant messages from employees are subpoenaed and found to be questionable will likely lose clients, capital and more.

The Burden of Responsibility

Scandal can be generated by an innocent act as easily as by one of guilty intent. Corporations are responsible for the actions of their employees. Questionable Internet behavior and activity can and will affect a company’s reputation, financial standing and potentially their legal standing as well.

A corporation bears the burden of responsibility for its employees and their actions. By employing network security devices to monitor and restrict Internet activity, a corporation not only relieves a large measure of their burden, but also protects their interests on numerous fronts. Without such protection, a company is courting disaster and inviting scandal.

Sun sea mickey and a florida mortgage lender

Here's what Florida is about: sun-soaked beaches, endless stretches of sand and sky, and an impish little mouse named Mickey. Here's what Florida could be about, too: the once-in-a-lifetime chance to live in paradise with the help of Florida mortgage lenders.

To ensure you get the best financing deal from Florida mortgage lenders, follow the three steps enumerated below.

Step 1: SHOP

Yes, shopping is therapeutic. In this instance, it's wise, too! Seeing many Florida mortgage lenders will open more doors to greater possibilities. By seeing many Florida mortgage lenders, you will be able to see all the options available to you. At the same time, you can see for yourself which option will suit you best.

In seeing Florida mortgage lenders, be sure to cover the following matters with them:

* Downpayment

* Monthly payment and interest rates: ask about the difference between fixed and adjustable terms

* Annual Percentage Rate: This rate takes into account points, broker fees, and other credit charges.

* Points: Note that the more points you pay, the lower the rate.

* Fees: These include costs incurred during the transaction, settlement, and closing of the deal.

* Private Mortgage Insurance: Florida mortgage lenders usually charge this to protect themselves in the eventuality a homeowner fails to pay.

Step 2: COMPARE

Knowing the information from your shopping list of your target Florida mortgage lender is not enough. Ask for information about the same loan amount, loan term, and type of loan from other Florida mortgage lenders to compare information. The more options, the better. You can later trim it down to those fitting your needs.

Step 3: NEGOTIATE

Once you have shortlisted Florida mortgage lenders who can best give you what you need, negotiate for the best deal possible. Rates and loan terms will vary from time to time. However, it would all boil down to the kind of lender you have. In dealing with a Florida mortgage lender, never forget that the transaction is purely for profit.

Though your lender appears friendly and approachable, do not forget that to him or her, you are only one house about to be taken off the market.

Clearly, you should not be swayed by toothy grins and perkily made offers. Stick to your budget. Do not get talked into buying a house with more space than you will need in this lifetime or the next.

Once you have hammered out an agreement with A Florida mortgage lender, secure a contract or lock-in right away. This should include agreed rate, duration, and number of points paid. This will protect you from rate increases while your loan is being processed. On the downside, if rates get lower, you will end up paying more, too. In cases like this, however, it is still possible to negotiate with your Florida mortgage lender for lighter terms.

Owning a home in California is now very easy. The three-step process explained above shows that not only is California a home for the young, beautiful, and fun-loving, it could also be home to the patient and the money-wise.

Bodybuilding nutrition and balance

Many inexperienced (sometimes even experienced!) gym regulars believe that muscles grow while lifting weights. However lifting weights forms only a small fraction of the muscle building process. Muscle development takes place at night during deep sleep when the body synthesizes new cells with nutrients from our diet. Therefore nutrition forms a very important part of a bodybuilding program.

The body utilizes nutrients in food to perform daily metabolic and what's commonly referred to as the "wear and tear processes". With bodybuilding, additional strain is put on the body to make new muscle tissues. Therefore the nutrient requirements also shoots up to stay with the demand.

The best bodybuilding nutrition comes from a balanced intake of carbohydrates, adequate protein, vitamins, minerals, fats and large amounts of water. So if you are serious about getting lean and ripped it’s time to say goodbye to mayo burgers, colas and other synthetic foods. Adopt eating habits imbibing fruits, whole grains, milk, eggs and fresh farm products.

How much protein do you need?

Your growing muscles need amino acids to create new tissues. The amino acids are provided by protein in diet. There is a lot of debate on the exact quantity of protein required in bodybuilding. The caution to maintain is that extreme amounts of protein in the diet can cause gastric and renal complications. Recent studies have suggested that a protein intake of 1 to 1.4 grams per unit of body weight is adequate to sustain the bodybuilding process. This means that the protein requirement of a 70 kg individual should be around 70 to 98 grams. To give an estimate of the amount involved consider the following: A 100 gm chicken breast has 22 grams of protein, a glass of milk has 8 grams, an egg approximately 5 grams and a slice bread 3 grams.

A word of caution against the tide of bodybuilding supplements in markets. Many times you come across advertisements proclaiming, ‘Gain 20 pounds of muscle in 3 months flat!’. Stay clear of these money hungry advertisers. Building lean muscle takes time and effort. Making use of synthetic products which alter body’s natural mechanism would offset what should be your real purpose in bodybuilding which is to keep the body fit and healthy.

Lastly in bodybuilding it’s not, ‘the more the better’. Rather it is ‘the more precise the better’. Don’t over exert, eat balanced food and include plenty of rest. With everything good in life, patience, commitment, and balance will guarantee your success. With these tips in mind you are all set to pump iron!

Live poker pros and cons of participating in a tournament

:
If you have had enough of playing poker with friends or with playing it online and winning some money and then losing some money to only win that money back again, then you have reached the stage in your poker playing experience where you need to start entering live tournaments. That is the real deal. No more long hours in front of the computer, no more feeling guilty for taking your friends' money: you are now ready to turn pro.

But, before you do, here are a few things you must consider:
1) One of the big differences of playing in a tournament is that you need to pick you hands carefully. Spend most of your time throwing your cards away at the right beginning. If you see that your cards won't amount to much, fight the urge to exchange most of them, and just hand them all in. This is what most tournament players do anyway. If you don't believe me, watch the others play.

2) Money you take with you to tournaments lasts for a much lengthier period than when playing with friends or online. This is one of the advantages of not playing every hand you are dealt. (Hint: You should do the same thing when playing with friends even though that then becomes boring.)

3) Do not sit to the left of the dealer. Ensure that there are at least two players between the dealer and the players to the left. Why? Only the first 2 players seated on the left of the dealer have to place the ante. Since, most of the tournaments involve ten players on each table, you save this much each time you play. This also means that each hand that you fold will mean that you have spent only half that of the lower limit. This amounts to three dollars in a two to four dollar rake tournament.

4) Take into consideration that the mere fact that you are away from home means that you will spend money on food and drinks. Try and get your own, but in any case keep it light.

5) Tournament dealers are not paid much, and so it' general practice to give them about three percent of whatever you win. Consider that all gambling halls and poker rooms also take a certain percentage but at least this comes from the money you win and so you don't feel it.

6) One of the other advantages of playing in a tournament is that you can use more money than you had. For instance, for a hundred dollar sit-in, many casinos and poker rooms will give you about five hundred in tournament chips to bet with.

7) If high odds and high risk is not what you are looking for you can take advantage of the late night satellite tournaments. These generally begin at one in the morning and since the number of players won't be high, you stand a bigger chance of winning.

Conclusion:
Playing poker requires tremendous skill as well as come luck. While you cannot depend on luck, improve your skills and your online casino or other kind of betting account will show a profit.

The state of georgia s health insurance

:
The State Of Georgia’s Health Insurance

Although healthcare insurance is very basic, there are around 1.7 million residents in the state of Georgia who go about their day without the benefit of any healthcare insurance of some form. The figure is quite alarming, considering that there are over 8 million people in that state if we go by the latest census figures. This only means that an estimated 21% of the population is uninsured (as opposed to uninsurable). Of the uninsured, 71% are adults who are earning income, or are dependents of income earning adults.

Georgia’s states officials have admitted that the level of the uninsured in the population has hit crisis level. The problem actually stems from the prohibitive healthcare costs in that state. Thankfully, there are already proposed legislations which, when approved, would make healthcare more accessible to the uninsured.

Lt. Governor Casey Cagle announced on January 31, 2008 the introduction of the Georgia Health Marketplace and the Healthcare Safety Net, which are, at the very basic healthcare initiatives by the state’s legislature.

Once these are approved, the Georgia Health Marketplace and the Healthcare Safety Net is seen to significantly cut the cost of Atlanta health insurance or, more precisely, Atlanta’s healthcare, by creating simple free-market system. Currently, Georgians have to put up with high healthcare costs and very few options being available. While there is no lack of health insurance carriers offering the whole range of health insurance programs, very few offer affordable HMO or PPO programs which are that affordable.

Under Healthcare Safety Net program, patients with non-emergency symptoms are taken to community-based clinics managed by volunteers instead of hospital emergency rooms. Under the program, communities can work at establishing of a Safety Net Clinic by applying for a $30,000 partnership planning grant. The grant can be used to build facilities. Existing clinics that serve indigent patients may apply for an implementation grant of up to $150,000 annually, with a year’s renewal option of $50,000, to run the clinic.

The Georgia Health Marketplace (GHM) is an online clearing house Georgians can check information on health insurance, compare health insurance products offered by different insurers, and buy healthcare plans.

The GHM represents the different healthcare plan providers, healthcare professional groups, and state-subsidized healthcare plans. The GHM should make it easier for individuals and small businesses to access information and buy products. Education is the key importance of GHM, and encouraging people to get themselves insured.

There is certainly no lack of healthcare providers and insurance agents in Georgia. Most of them you can find by doing only a Google search. The ideal health insurance plan should address the long term healthcare of Georgia’s residents, and to help them with the cost of sickness and accidents.

Of all the known health insurance programs, the most accessible, for employed people at least, are HMO plans. Precisely because of the Health Maintenance Organization Act of 1973, employers with 25 full-time employees in their payroll to offer HMO or healthcare options to employees. If you feel that you can’t afford to pay for a healthcare policy out from your own pocket, you can consider being employed by a big company.

How to compete against larger companies

Do you think that because you have a small business you can’t compete against larger companies? If you do then think again. Most small business owners don’t feel that they are in the same arena as larger companies so they don’t even bother to try. This can be a big mistake and one that can cost your company in the long run.

Growing your company takes some competitive moves. Sure, you can continue to operate as you always have but this routine will not get you ahead. There are some tips, however, if you want to expand your business opportunities and compete against the big boys.

Think big. Always have the big picture in mind. Thinking big means picturing what can be more than what already is. The day to day routine can get you in a rut and you can get so hung up on it that you fail to look ahead.

Have passion. Loving what you do can help you get ahead. The passion you have for your business not only helps catapult the company ahead but also helps motivate employees on a daily basis. Passion also translates directly to sales. The passion you feel for your business can be more easily brought to the bottom line when there are fewer employees. Larger companies have to work twice as hard to get the same feelings across to customers.

Think outside the box. This may sound like an old clichй but it really is true. If you can have vision to do things differently you just may get ahead. This is particularly true when it comes to competing with larger companies. Think of ways that your company can provide something better than the large company can.

Think ahead. Instead of thinking about this month’s numbers you should be looking towards the future. Great companies are made by revolutionaries - those who look ahead to the future to see the possibilities. Larger companies may use large telecom services such as OC3 connection. You can use the same technology on a smaller scale by ordering a T1. This state of the art communication service allows you all the same features and benefits at a much smaller cost.

Find your niche. Once you know what your market is you’ll be much better able to cater to it. Larger companies often lose focus and try to market to too broad a group. Instead use your marketing skills to your advantage. Yes, you have a much lower marketing budget than the larger companies do. But you can use your marketing strategies to your advantage if you know your niche.

Use the Internet to your advantage. The web has brought large and small companies to an even playing field. Make sure that you use the Internet to boost your business. Always have a web site presence. Don’t skimp when it comes to your website. You don’t need lots of pages but you do need a professional look. Be sure to put your website address on all your brochures and business cards.

Provide what the big companies can’t or don’t. Look for weaknesses in your competition and use those to build your business. For example, one place where many larger companies fail is in providing good customer service. Small businesses can give better service because they care about each customer. Be sure to use that to help you win business over the larger competition.

Exercise in minutes - exercise for people with no time to spare

You can’t count the benefits of exercising. They are just too numerous. They help control weight, help weight loss, improve your attitude and generally make you feel better. The experts are now telling us that just thirty minutes a day of moving will improve your health.

While I must accept the opinions of so many experts, I still find setting aside the time is a problem in my busy life. If you experience the same problem, you might try some of these ideas to get you going:

1. When you go to the mall or grocery store, don’t park next to the front door of the store. Leave your car as far from the store as you can. This will give you more of a walk in an effortless way.

2. When the weather suits you, go outside and clean the yard. Just bending and stretching to pick up leaves and trash will burn calories.

3. Try taking the dog for a walk. Your dog will enjoy this very much and keep you moving.

4. At work, perhaps you can walk at lunch time. I’ve found that some of my office staff are willing to walk some days with me. This makes the time go faster and yet, I’ve exercised during the daylight hours.

I’m sure you can find many more reasons and ideas to help motivate you in the right direction. I find that walking in the sunshine helps improve my mood and that I will just make the time when the sun is out. Find your reason to help yourself.

Be careful when choosing a credit counselor

When you find yourself in a bad credit situation it is easy to find hope in credit counseling agencies. You feel safe when someone says that they are a “non-profit organization.” But often, those that are offering help are only helping themselves.

Federal and state regulators are warning consumers that some credit counseling agencies are not what they seem. They may actually be using a non-profit status to avoid consumer protection laws. This gives them the ability to advantage of you, the trusting consumer.

What makes the agency non-profit? All they have to do is provide free education and counseling services. But many agencies are using these as a way to hustle clients into debt-management plans, which pay off big time.

With most debt-management plans, the client pays the agency a certain amount of money each month. The agency then pays the client’s bills. The agency negotiates lower interest rates and the waiving of fees with the client’s credit cards and loan companies. The credit card companies will usually give the agency a kickback, a percentage of the amount repaid.

Many experts say that clients are often pressured into the plans, even if they don’t need them. Some agencies don’t pay the bills on time, and you are the one who suffers.

Even the IRS has stiffened its review of agencies seeking non-profit status.

There are legitimate credit counseling agencies out there that can help you with your financial problems. You just have to shop around and do your homework when choosing an agency.

Talk and visit several agencies before selecting one. Don’t let the non-profit label fool you into thinking that a certain agency is better than the others. Non-profit status doesn’t differentiate the good from the bad, you must do that yourself.

Watch out for agencies that want “voluntary” contributions and high monthly service charges. If you are having financial problems, chances are that you can’t afford to pay high fees. Before you sign up for a debt management plan, request a written statement of all agency fees.

If an agency says that they can get you out of debt quickly or slash all of your interest rates, don’t believe it. First, getting out of debt takes time. You are simply looking for a plan that will get you there a little faster – but it still takes time.

Secondly, interest rates are determined by your credit card companies, not the agency. Many creditors won’t lower your rates. Some will. The agency has no idea of knowing what the future holds.

Check with your creditors to make sure that they are willing to work with the agency you choose. Once you have started a payment plan, make sure that your creditors are receiving their payments on time. If they don’t, it’s your problem.

Ask around for a reputable agency. Check with the Better Business Bureau and your state’s attorney generals office to see if there are any complaints on file. Ask the agency if they are a member of the Association of Independent Credit Counseling Agencies or the National Foundation for Credit Counseling – two well-known groups that have standards and fee limitations.

It’s okay to ask for help, but make sure that you can trust who you ask.

How to burn stomach fat

The stomach is one of the most difficult areas of the body to lose fat from. While it seems as though other parts respond well to diet and exercise, the stomach is reluctant to change, and there doesn’t seem to be one effective way of losing fat there without taking it off elsewhere too. There is a lot of conflicting advice about how to loose your beer belly, from extra crunches in the gym that most people agree don’t work, to special fat-burning pills which are mocked by the scientists.

Most people will tell you that there is no certain way of losing fat from just your stomach. If you want to lose weight, they will tell you, you will need to reduce the fat from all over your body; you can’t pick and choose where the body takes its fat reserves from. They may recommend a very strict fat-free diet which can backfire, since the body’s first reaction to starvation conditions is to keep what little fat it has. In effect, you will achieve the opposite of what you want. An ideal low-fat diet should have around 55% carbohydrates, 30% protein, and only 15% fat.

Gym fanatics will probably confirm that there is very little you can do to make sure the fat you lose is taken from your waistline. They may show you a few tricks, such as the extra-special crunches that are supposed to target your abs, to the recommended method by a former Mr Universe. Some of these exercises can be useful, but they are not as good as effective diet, which will benefit the whole body. You should also beware of the latest ‘ab crunching’ machine; the amount of use these devices get rarely pays for their cost. Most of them are useless, and since they don’t take fat directly off the abs, you will have splendid muscles but you won’t be able to see them under the excess lard.

Just as useless are diet pills, though these are much more dangerous than any exercise machine fad. Many fat-reduction pills have been withdrawn by doctors, as they have been proven to affect health. Also, messing with your body’s metabolism in this way can mean that you

The problem will all of these devices is that there is no proven way to select the part of the body where fat will be taken from. When you burn fat, you burn energy, and this is taken from everywhere. A careful diet is, of course, essential when you are trying to lose weight, as is regular exercise; however, in order to lose the most from your waistline, you should be doing more cardiovascular, or aerobic, exercise. Most people do not do enough of this kind of workout, often stopping after half an hour. For the first 20 or so minutes, the body is not burning fat, but glycogen (carbohydrates), and only after this time does it start to burn fat. So with aerobic exercise, the key to burning stomach fat is to work out for as much as an hour continuously. You should be doing this at least 3 to 4 times a week.

As well as aerobic exercise, you should give some time to resistance exercises. This is of course, working out with weights, which many people find very daunting. On the one hand, weight training exercise will slow down the number of pounds you lose per week (as it increases muscle mass), but you will be loosing fat. Also, resistance training is generally beneficial to your health, and a complete weight-loss program will include aerobic and resistance exercises, as well as a low-fat diet.

Las vegas how to have non gambling related fun

Last month, my wife, Anne Doe, took me to Las Vegas because she had to go for a business convention. Needless to say, she writes for an guide to casinos and I hate gambling. But then, she likes it and this supports us too, so I went along without any hassle. At first I was depressed, but then as I asked around and looked around, I ended up having more fun in Las Vegas than I would have thought. And no. I did not enter a single casino while I was there.

Entertainment:

One of the greatest things about Las Vegas, Reno and Atlantic City (but especially Las Vegas) is the number of shows that are available. You can get to watch top class comedians like Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, Ray Romano, Tim Allen and even the likes of Bill Cosby and Chris Rock. If you are into music you can watch female singers like Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Beyonc?, male performers like Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, Snoopy Dog and bands like Oasis and Bon Jovi. I could go on and on but the list is endless. If you are into magic you can watch magicians like David Copperfield do their thing meters from you. Whatever you like, you can find it here from Western music to oldies to Jazz, Rock, Heavy Mettle to Trance. All you have to do is look at the itenary offered during your visit.

Food:

Chinese to Japanese to Korean to Jewish and even Vegetarian and proper meat eating establishments await your every delight in Vegas. Do not opt for the cheap and oily fried dishes served for free while you play. Stop a while and take in the delightful scenery and smells of East Asian or European dishes. What is wondrous is that you get to see man's ability to mix. A real melting pot if I may say so myself.

But is that all what casino cities like Las Vegas are about? Do you have to remain in the city to really and truly enjoy your stay?

No.

Here are some of the better attractions you must see on your visit to Vegas:

Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon:

Book yourself a seat on any of the many sightseeing tours available and go and watch the architectural marvel that is Hoover Dam built over the Grand canyon which is also a grand sight to see by itself. Black Canyon is another must see as is Lake Mead which is so beautiful just because it is a body of water all surrounded by desert-like nature.

Colorado River:

While looking at the Dam and Canyon is from above, to see the true beauty of the river, you have to go down. The Colorado river is excellent for river-rafting and water sports, but you do not have to take part if it is not your thing. Instead just sit back and enjoy another of nature's marvels.

Bonnie Springs:

Who can not resist going to one of the old towns like those in the Western gun slinging movies? Your destination needs to be Old Nevada. There you can delight in an old western town right in the middle of Red Rock Canyon. They host western shootouts too so come prepared, partner!

Conclusion:

I could go on and on about other attractions like the theme park in Circus Circus, the Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary, the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve and Mt. Charleston but I think you get the picture. In Las Vegas and hate gambling? Do not despair. Just go out and have some clean un-gambling fun.

Recognizing and battling breast cancer

Breast cancer occurs due to the irrepressible growth of cells in the breast that invades the nearby tissues and spreads throughout the body. These collections of irrepressible growth of tissue are called tumors or malignant tumors. However, not all tumors are cancerous.

Breast cancer has been diagnosed in large numbers in North America and Europe. In 2001, about 200,000 cases of breast cancer were diagnosed in the United States alone. Every woman has a 1 in 8 risk of developing breast cancer, but the risk of dying from breast cancer is much lower, barely 1 in 28.

The risk of getting breast cancer is generally higher among older women, women with a family history or previous history of breast cancer, women who had radiation therapy in the chest region, women who started their periods before 12 years old, women who had menopause after 50 years old, women who never had children or had them age 30 or older, or women with genetic mutation. In recent times genetic mutations for breast cancer have become a hot topic of research.

The breast cancer tumor has the following symptoms: lump or thickening that appears on the breast or underarm, changes in the breast's shape, nipple turned inwards followed by colorless discharge, red or scaled skin or nipple, or ridges on the breast skin.

If a woman experiences any of these symptoms, it does not necessarily mean she has breast cancer. In such a case she should undergo a breast cancer personal check-up. It is estimated that 95% of breast cancer is detected through personal check-up. The breast cancer personal check-up includes checking for lumps in the breasts after each menstrual period, puckering the skin, and checking for nipple retraction or discharge. For consistent result, every woman should do a breast cancer personal check-up at the same time every month. Various other techniques such as mammography, thermography, ultrasonography, computerized tomography scan etc, can also help detect breast cancer.

Breast cancer treatments include surgery that removes cancerous tissues, with breast conservation therapy (BCT) being one such surgery. Other breast cancer treatments include chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormonal therapy and biologic therapy. Radiotherapy is a common breast cancer treatment, and radiation treatment and chemotherapy may follow surgery to ensure the destruction of the stray cancer cells.

Even after undergoing many or all of these breast cancer treatment measures, unfortunately almost half the women suffer from a recurrence of the disease.

Dealing with garden pests

While tending to my own garden, I have found that one of the most frustrating things that can happen to a gardener is to walk outside to check on your plants. It’s just a routine walk to make sure that your garden is thriving, but you end up finding holes in all of your plants that looked fine only hours before. The explanations for some of these plant-destroying holes are garden pests. Some of the main garden pests are slugs, worms, caterpillars, birds, snails, and the occasional gopher. Although you can never wipe out these pests entirely, after all your hard work in the garden you have to do something.

Insects are one of the worst things to have in your garden; they can live under the soil, in old weeds or piles of leaves, or in a number of other places. In order to help keep insects away, always try and eliminate places in your garden and near your garden that these insects and other plant diseases could be living. Remove old leaves, weeds, or any other resellerhostaward. com decaying matter that insects and diseases could be living in from your yard. Also, regularly turn over your garden soil and break apart any clumps of dirt so that you can eliminate the living spaces any insects that might be hiding underground.

Another way to rid your garden of the pests is to use dormant spray, which is used to keep destructive insects and diseases under control. It is best that you use dormant spray when your plants are dormant, usually around February or early March. I have used dormant spray many times on my garden and it has worked wonders on keeping insects out. But as I learned from experience, dormant spray is only effective if you follow the correct instructions. When I first decided to use some on my garden, I just dumped it everywhere in hopes of killing everything harmful. Unfortunately I ended up killing my entire garden along with my neighbors. Some insects can be beneficial to your garden though, so be sure to find out which insects help your garden.

Another pest problem I've had besides insects has been birds. Whenever I see birds in my garden I run outside a chase them away, but as soon as I step inside they come right back. The solution that I've come up with to keep the birds away from my garden is to put a bird feeder in my yard. Instead of costing me time and money by eating my garden, the birds eat at the bird feeder. In the long run it’ll save you money. Not only can a bird feeder help keep birds away from your garden, but they can also be a new part of your yard decoration. Although not completely eliminating my bird problem, my bird feeder has made the problem smaller. Getting a dog has also helped.

If you start seeing mounds of dirt around your yard, and your plants keep unexplainably dieing, you can assume that you have a gopher problem. Thankfully, this is one of the few garden pasts that I haven't had. However my friend has struggled with a tremendous gopher infestation, so I decided to research it. Gophers are rodents that are five to fourteen inches long. Their fur can be black, light brown, or white, and they have small tails. One method of getting rid of these root-eating pests is to set traps. The key to successfully capturing a gopher using a trap is to successfully locate the gopher's tunnels and set the trap correctly. Another way to get rid of them is to use smoke bombs, which you place into the tunnel and the smoke spreads through out it and hopefully reaches the gopher.

If you suspect that your gardens are being pillaged by any of the pests I mentioned, I encourage you to try your hardest to eliminate the problem as soon as possible. The longer you let the species stay, the more established it will become.

Adventure travel tours a day on the trail

:
An adventure travel vacation is a great way to explore your world. Join a group of fun people who share your interests as we go on a day hike in the Alps. Enjoy a little taste of Switzerland.

Up, Up, and Away

After consuming a hearty breakfast, we depart for the trailhead. It's close to our conveniently located inn, so we take a leisurely stroll - greeting friendly locals and shopkeepers along the way.

We board a bright red cable car that whisks us soaring above the valley to a far away peak. One of your companions excitedly nudges you, "Look, marmots!". We gaze at a trio of cuddly creatures staring back at us from the rockface - so close we feel we could reach out and touch them.

We disembark at a solid rock and timber mountain station - now peaceful, this station hosts a clattering mass of skiers during the winter season.

Clean Mountain Air and Emerald Lakes

Breathing in the fresh mountain air, we set out on our trail. Carpets of wildflowers surround us. Gentle cows graze the alpine grasses - serenading us with a cheerful tinkle of bells. Hiking here is so refreshing.

A meandering path leads us through hillocks of glacial moraine, now cloaked in a splendid green, to the edge of a startlingly beautiful emerald lake. The nearby mountains reflect on its surface.

We make a brief stop to admire this natural jewel. Some of our group rambles around the tiny lake - others lay back and enjoy the serenity.

Hiking Amongst Towering Peaks

Our trail continues along a high mountain valley bordered by towering snow-capped peaks. Beautiful Alpenroses form a lovely rolling heath. We tramp across a small snowfield - its coolness underfoot contrasts with the glorious warmth of the alpine sun.

We spy a cairn ahead with the familiar red-and-white trail marking painted on one of its rocks. Rounding a corner we spot our lunchtime destination in the distance - a solid Berghaus growing out of the surrounding rocks.

Lunching on the Sonnenterrasse

As we settle ourselves on a rustic, sun-drenched Sonnenterrasse, a tantalizing smell of frying onions and sausages greets us. Lunch is hearty mountain fare - plates heaped with Rosti mit Spiegeleier und Speck (a wonderfully golden, crispy fried potato pancake with egg and bacon) - served by a flaxen-haired girl in a traditional, powdery-blue farmer's smock.

We wash down our delicious lunch with bottles of local beer and gaze out across a massive glacier winding its way down between two peaks and glistening in the sunlight.

Stunning Views

Well sated, we regain our trail and soon find ourselves breaking out onto a sloping hillside - affording us stunning views of the valley far below. We see a tiny hamlet across the valley, its sun-burned houses and barns surround a central church spire. A massive mountain rears up behind this peaceful scene.

Slowly dropping down a gentle path, we enter a straggle of dwarf pine. We're greeted by a pungent fragrance that reminds us of the cleanliness of this wonderful habitat. The afternoon sun is gaining strength and it's a perfect time for us to enter the cool loaminess of the lower forest. We follow the edge of a cascading glacier-fed creek - its frostiness refreshes the air around us.

Warm Sun and the Smell of Hay

We clatter across an ancient wooden bridge - its surface well worn by generations of cows being driven to Alpine meadows. In the lower pastures, local farmers are harvesting the hay with large wooden rakes. A comforting, sun-rich smell of dried grasses greets us.

Off to the Konditorei

The relaxing smell of hay and the warmth of the sun has put us into a peaceful, lazy mood. We beeline to the nearest Konditorei to debate our biggest decision of the day - is it to be the daintily glazed apricot torte, the decadent chocolate mousse with lashings of whipped cream, or the traditional (and oh so tasty) Engadiner Nusstorte.

We relax in a cozy nook and relieve today's experiences.

Relaxing Back at the Inn

We amble back to our welcoming inn - a great time for relaxed exploration of the local shops. Back at the inn, some members catch up on reading in the inn's glorious wood-paneled library - others send postcards or nap in the warm afternoon sun.

Later, we'll watch as the sun paints the mountains with golden color. An adventure travel vacation in Switzerland is a fantastic experience.

Tomorrow, we set off on another lovely adventure.

X-treme scooters are you ready to play

No one wants plain electric scooters anymore. They are not looking for your gas scooter of old. What everyone is talking about are the X-Treme Scooters. Scooters don’t look like you’re grandpas anymore. Today electric scooters are standing up and taking notice. Some scooters, like the X-Treme x-560 are designed to look more like their high-end street bikes.

Your gas scooter that your dad used to mount on an old bike frame has made leaps and bounds over the ages. The gas scooter of today is one of the hottest transportation vehicles out there. The X-Treme XG-550 is a good example. With a 50cc motor, dual front shock system, and the ability to fold down with ease, make this a commuters choice.

Every where you look, you see young and old riding their gas scooter or electric scooters. X-Treme Scooters are versatile, quick and can go the distance.

With growing popularity, X-Treme Scooters is filling that need.

1. X-Treme scooters are versatile: Being versatile means being able to take your scooter just about anywhere. Electric scooters now-a-days have the option to fold down for easy transport or storage. Your granddads couldn’t do that. A foldable gas scooter or foldable electric scooters are popular among college students, mariners and campers to name a few.

2. Today’s X-Treme Scooters are quick: All X-Treme Scooters are quick for their assigned task. X-Treme Scooters are used for racing, doing tricks, and every day transportation. It is important to note that the speed you get with your x-treme scooter is dependant on such variables as

a. Maintenance: The condition and charge if electric, of the scooter – always check tire pressure, oil/grease chain. If gas scooter, clean air filter, wipe plug and make sure gas tank has no debris buildup.

Other Important factors Include:

b. The weight that the scooter is carrying.

c. The terrain that the scooter is going over.

3. How far can X-Treme Scooters Go? That really depends on the output and type. But that is not all. For electric scooters, you need to go a little deeper than just the description.

a. Watts does not always equal power: When you see an electric scooter and it says 250,350,500 and some boast 750 up 1000 watt motors, how can you really be sure you’re getting what you paid for? Every electric scooter motor has a plate on it for identification. On the plate is the actual output rating for that motor. I have seen 500 watt scooters listed as 750 and 1000 watt. Be careful.

b. Voltage does not always equal power: If you have the wattage, you need the batteries to support the wattage. In the old days, everything was either an 8 volt or a single 12 volt system. Over the years, x-treme scooters have evolved into 24, 36 and 48 volt systems. Traditional electric scooters these days will have either 12 or 24 volt systems. When you see a 36 volt system that will give you a minute increase in power, but the real advantage is distance and torque. The more voltage, the longer your scooter will run and the more weight your scooter will be able to carry.

Whether you want to do tricks, race, be in the X-Games or are looking for a less expensive way to work, today’s X-Treme Scooters will get you farther, faster, higher than ever before. Don’t be stuck in the past, move forward and enjoy life to the fullest. Get your X-Treme Scooter and start living. Times are changing and the next thing on the horizon is the “WAVE”. Will you be left behind?

Getting the skinny on plastic surgery

Cosmetic surgery is becoming a normal practice for many people, almost to the point that it’s like going to the dentist. However this does not mean all is well in this cosmetic candy land. Yes, plastic surgery is very common and you have lots of doctors and surgical choices available to you, but there are other factors one needs to think about before making their way to the doctor’s office. Along with deciding on the right doctors and particular surgical procedure you want done; it would be wise to contemplate if the risks are worth the potential results.

When you are deciding on what doctor will perform your surgery be sure you have reviewed all of his or her credentials. It’s also advisable to talk with the doctors past patients and staff. If you have any friends or family that have had cosmetic surgery; talk with them about their doctor and how their procedure went. When deciding on a surgeon it is very important you verify that they are certified and properly accredited. There are many horror stories related to cosmetic surgery based on people not doing their due diligence on this important detail.

After choosing your doctor you may want to factor in the distance and travel time from your home to the hospital. This plays an important role after your surgery since you will need to visit with your surgeon for follow up care. Make sure you arrange for a friend or family member to pick you up after your procedure. You will most likely be unable to drive due to medication or other surgery related reasons. However, not all surgeries require you to have another person drive you home, but you probably will not feel like driving after the operation even if you feasibly could.

Most procedures are not covered under insurance policies unless your health is adversely affected and can only be corrected through a particular operation. Even then you must get a referral from a specialist who must provide in written detail why it’s imperative you have the procedure done. It is important to note that insurance companies are getting more lenient with their approvals on certain plastic surgeries; especially if the operation could lower the risk of you needing future medical care in the short and long term.

Taking care of yourself post and pre-op will play an important role on how well you heal after your cosmetic surgery. You must keep all bandages on and clean. Avoid over exerting yourself as you will likely be restricted in most normal everyday activities. In many cases swelling will be present and persistent as your body readjusts to its new look and feel.

Mentally you may feel fatigued or even disappointed, but these feelings resolve once the bandages have been removed and surgical areas have reduced in swelling. With cosmetic surgery you are changing your physical appearance so it will take getting use too. Some after post-op are still unsatisfied with the results and may need or want further procedures. Cosmetic surgery should be well thought through and you must be mentally ready for any adverse outcome. So take time deciding what will be right for you.

The top 10 cell phone wallpaper themes

The technology age is considered by many to be one of the most cold and impersonal. With communications devices that allow for so many people to interact without ever meeting face-to-face, this reputation might just be well earned. When it comes to cell phones, however, there are ways to help make the personality shine. Individualized cellular phone wallpaper is one such way.

By allowing a person to take an object that's pretty basic, boring and even a little cold and impersonal and make it truly their own, cell phone wallpaper puts touch of personality into the mix. These individualized backgrounds for cell phone screens can be as funky, crazy or sentimental as a person might desire, too.

Wallpaper works by replacing the set background on a phone screen. Some phones might allow for the setting of multiple wallpaper choices. For example, a different wallpaper setting for each caller, or just a single screen that shows up all the time.

The theme options for cellular phone wallpaper designs are pretty amazing, too. The key word is choice, and there is no lack of it. Major theme groups for cellular phone wallpaper include:

* Movies. Many movie companies offer cellular phone wallpaper downloads to fans. Depicting a scene from a person's favorite flick, these downloads are generally free, but might some with a small charge.

* Super heroes. These are quite popular in the cell phone wallpaper category. Superman and beyond, they can all be found in wallpaper form. Some of these downloads might cost a few dollars, but there are free options, too.

* Animals. People with a penchant for a particular kind of cat, dog, horse and more can find wallpaper to fit their personal tastes. The animal arena for wallpaper is strong and ever growing.

* Music. Many recording artists offer pictures of themselves for download as cell phone wallpaper. Whether it's album covers or headshots of the artists, they can be found for cheap or free download.

* Action, hobby scenes. The choices for hobbyists are flourishing with everything from skydiving to car driving being features as wallpaper background for phones.

* Guys and gals. Images of models and heartthrobs can readily be found for wallpaper use.

* Landmarks. Fans of particular places will often find just the right wallpaper to suit their individual tastes. From historical landmarks to beautiful landscape scenes, the choices on this front are many.

* Television shows. The little screen does get even smaller. Television themed wallpaper is a hot commodity as fans rush to features their favorite shows each time they use their phones.

* Video games. Characters from popular video games are often favorites on the cellular phone wallpaper front.

* Personal photos. Some phones offer users the ability to set their own wallpaper choices. This can be particularly easy when there is a camera onboard. All it takes is a snap and then assigning the photo to serve the purpose.

Cellular phone wallpaper is a favorite for many people as way to show off their individual personalities. By offering a way to make each phone a little distinct and different, these wallpaper downloads are becoming quite popular. How wallpaper works exactly will depend on the phone in question.

Business angels taking the risk

When you’re building a new business, or looking to expand your old one, the first thing you’ll always need is money. Money doesn’t just grease the wheels of business, as the old adage goes – money is the wheels of business. Everything in business depends on it, and if you can’t get funding, your business plans will never even get out of the starting gate. So, what do you look for in an investor? Some investors, called venture capitalists, represent large bases of other investors and, as such, are spending their money on your project, much the way a stockbroker or investing firm works.

On the other hand, there also exists a kind of investor who invests his or her own money in starting companies. They’re taking a risk, and are often careful where they invest, but they do invest somewhere – and with the right sales pitch, that somewhere could be your company. These investors are called business angels, and work either singly or in pools of capital. They may invest now, while shares are cheap; wait a few years for your company to mature, and then sell to other stockbrokers or back to you, if you’ve made enough profit.

The problem, of course, is that business angels are investing their own capital. No one, as they say, is more careful than a man spending his own money – business angels will be very careful where and what they invest in, so you’ll have to have a bulletproof sales pitch, if you expect to succeed and get the funds you need. A key here is preparation. Before your first meeting with your investors, make sure you know everything there is to know about your company, your market, your target audience, and your locale – nothing impresses people more than a ready answer for every question and plenty of hard evidence.

Also, make sure you have a good, clear business plan. Know how many people will be on your payroll, what equipment you’ll need to buy, what office space you’ll be renting, and how all these expenses translate into profits at the end of the year. Without a clear idea of how you’re going to make money, investors will be reluctant at best. Know the means by which you’ll get your cash, and you’ll better be able to predict the results to others.

Prepare for questions before you go into the meeting. Think about what you might ask if you were in the investor’s position. Questions like “how much do you expect to make the first year,” and “how do you expect profits to rise over the next decade,” are to be expected, as well as other questions more tailored to your specific situation. Know your unique selling points – what makes you stand out from the crowd? Why should the investor choose to give money to you instead of the next guy or the next girl in line outside the investor’s office? Show them you’re unique, and you’ll de facto eliminate the competition.

Much of the way these meetings is entirely psychological. Make sure you yourself are confident in voice and posture. Know you can make money and you’ll be much more confident when you make that claim to an investor. A straight back and a strong voice do wonders and can often be even more effective than strong logical arguments for what you say.

Make sure you’re committed as well. If you haven’t invested as much of your own money as possible, investors will suspect you of scamming or of not trusting your own company. If you’re heavily invested in your company with both time and money, investors will be more likely to believe your commitment to its successful completion.

Warning lack of exercise could be harmful to your heath

You know it’s bad when the Surgeon General issues a warning that lack of exercise is hazardous to your health. And that was back in ’96. Since then, the stats haven’t improved much, either: 25% of the American population is still sedentary and 60% do not exercise regularly (Reference: cdc. gov).

For fitness minded folks, we could do worse than to follow the “hour-a-day” prescription outlined by the Surgeon General’s Healthy People Report. It’s just a guideline, of course and, as you already know, any amount of activity packed into your busy schedule is going to earn you healthy rewards. But there are plenty of other reasons to exercise.

“If people exercised only moderately,” says Janet Kneiss, Physical Therapist, “there would be far less incidence of injury. The 15 or so people I see daily, who come in with back and neck problems, usually don’t want to exercise, they want a quick fix.”

The solution as she sees it?

“I think, if people could just reframe the idea of it [exercise] being so much work and focus more on the enjoyment of doing it, they would find the experience more positive.”

So, if exercise alone can keep you injury and disease free, how do you keep it from being just another thing “to-do?” Here are a couple ideas:

Do something you enjoy: This sounds incredibly simple, but it’s worth mentioning. As we’ve already said, most seasoned fitness fanatics as well as neophytes will be the first to tell you: if you do something you enjoy, you will stick to it. What do you like to do? Walk? Run? Spin the treadmill while watching the tube? Or how about branching out and trying something unique and different like kick-boxing or martial arts? It’s a great idea to add variety; it will keep your exercise fresh and interesting.

Mix it up! Speaking of variety, you can also mix up your routine. For example: try splitting up your exercise sessions. If you take a half-hour walk in the morning, take a half-hour to stretch or resistance train in the afternoon. Just adding a bit of variety could spice things up and keep you motivated.

Make an appointment with yourself. Make the commitment to exercise by making an appointment with yourself. Write it on your calendar. If you’ve never exercised before, start slow [10-15 minutes] then build up. Begin exercising three times a week, then slowly build up your time and your frequency. If you love to exercise, try listening to your bio-rhythms. If you can, schedule exercise during peak energy periods.

Strive for your personal best. A friend e-mailed to tell me he was gearing up for another 5K relay race. I wasn’t surprised. When he was 40, never having run before and not having “runners genetics” as he puts it, he decided at 15 pounds overweight and asthmatic, he was going to run. He made up his mind. For a year he trained, dropped the weight and signed up. His first goal was simply to finish. Did he do it: you bet. Did he work through an asthma attack to get across the finish line? He did, but he kept going. Now, he continues to train and improve his time with each race. His secret, he tells me: enjoy the journey, live in the moment, and focus on your personal best.

“So, Laura, what’s the take home message?” you ask. Never mind what everyone else is doing. Stay focused on you, doing what you enjoy and what is fun and exciting for you. Learn everything you can about health and fitness. Then, do the best you can. In so doing, you will be an inspiration for others. To summarize: A quote from one of my favorite inspirational writers Dr. Wayne Dyer, who says: “I don’t want to be better than anybody, I just want to be better than I was yesterday.”

Finding mortgage loan offers in the UK is not difficult. From newspaper advertisements to surfing the Internet, mortgage loans sporting low interest rates and additional benefits to entice borrowers to sign up are literally everywhere. But, when a mortgage offer claims that it can save 'x' amount over the competition, how can you be sure just how much it will save you when applied to your own mortgage loan? Moreover, if the deal offered is short-term, how much will the offer's standard mortgage rates compare with the mortgage rates you are currently paying for your loan? The answer to these conundrums is to compare the mortgage offers against each other, and to do this we need a loan calculator mortgage calculator.

Making comparisons with a loan calculator mortgage calculator

A loan calculator mortgage calculator is a clever little web program that is freely available on many loan and mortgage related websites. The principal behind a loan calculator mortgage calculator is quite simple - input the amount of the mortgage loan into the calculator along with the interest rate applied to the loan and the loan duration, hit the 'submit' button and 'hey presto' you have a schedule of monthly loan repayments. So, for two or more mortgage offers you can enter the loan parameters into the calculator along with your mortgage balance and get an idea of what a particular mortgage offer will cost you each month, as well as what it will cost you in total over the lifetime of the loan.

To accurately compare your loan calculator results for different mortgage offers it is a good idea to print off each set of loan calculations from the calculator and make a side-by-side analysis of them. If the calculator you are using cannot handle multiple interest rates across the life of the loan then you may need to do several calculations to arrive at the final loan cost before making your side-by-side comparison. As an example, if you were to spend say 4 years on a fixed interest rate of 4.5%, and then change to a standard rate of 6.75% you will need to make two calculations - one at 4.5% to work out repayments across the first 4 years, and then a second calculation at 6.75% for the remainder of the mortgage term.

Aside from mortgage loan comparisons a loan calculator mortgage calculator can be used to work out how much of a mortgage loan you can afford in the first place. To do this simply choose a calculator that allows you to 'reverse' the calculation process by entering the repayment amount that you want to pay / can afford to pay each month and the interest rate. The calculator will take the loan input information and from it extrapolate the total mortgage loan you can apply for. Do bear in mind though that mortgage companies are rarely willing to lend more than 3.5 times your salary on a 75% mortgage or any loan greater than 75%.

Spring cleaning tips to make the job a little easier

Spring-cleaning can seem like such a chore. You spend all day, or even a few days getting the entire house sparkly clean. As a busy mom, you will appreciate some of these cleaning tips that will make the job a little easier and faster. You’ll have more time to enjoy the nice spring weather outside.

Start out by taking a quick look through your cleaning supplies a few days before the big spring clean. Make sure you have plenty of paper towels and cleaning rags. If your mop or broom is really worn out, this is a great time to invest in a new one. Check all bottles and containers of cleaning supplies that you like to use and see if you have plenty of them. There’s nothing worse than having to clean yourself up during your big spring cleaning to run to the store for a new bottle of Windex.

Get everyone in the family to spend some time with you the day before the big spring cleaning to pick up around the house. You don’t want to spend time picking up toys or washing dishes the next day.

Get up early and put on some comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Dress all the way down to your shoes and put your hair up. Take a few minutes to gather all your cleaning supplies and get going.

Tackle one room at a time. This works much better than trying to do 10 things at once. It will also give you a great sense of accomplishment to see each clean room.

Start at the top and work your way down. Use a broom or a mop with a soft cloth wrapped around it to get any spider webs and dust out of the ceiling corners. Dust the light fixtures. Keep working your way down cleaning counters, windows and windowsills, furniture. Finish by dusting the baseboards and giving the carpets a good vacuuming. Take the time to vacuum under the bed and move furniture to clean the floor under it whenever possible.

When you get to the bathrooms, start by spraying some all purpose or bathroom cleaner on all the appliances, especially anything that may have some build up on it, like the soap dish in the shower. Pour some Clorox in the toilet. Allow the cleaner to soak in while you get started on the ceiling, windows and counters. By the time you get around to the sink, shower and toilet, all you need to do is wiping them down and give the inside of the toilet a quick scrub with the brush.

Make sure you take some breaks, and drink plenty of water. Cleaning is a touch job. When you are done, enjoy a long shower, put on some clean clothes and put up your feet. Give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done and get some rest. You deserve it.

How to write a strong start for your novel

I revised my Civil War novel Hearts of Stone many times before selling it to Dutton Children’s Books. My editor only had one major suggestion: Consider a new beginning.

If you’re revising a novel, considering the first scene should be one of your last steps. It’s hard to know how best to begin until you’re sure how the story ends. And although everyone needs to revise in a manner that works for them, writers who perfect every sentence along the way can fall in love with sentences or scenes that ultimately don’t best serve the story.

Skilled novelists convey character, conflict, setting, and voice in the first page, paragraph, even sentence. It’s a tall order! But here are eight strategies that command readers’—and editors’—interest.

1. Grab readers’ attention.

Katherine Paterson begins Lyddie, one of my favorite children’s novels, this way: “The bear had been their undoing, though at the time they had all laughed.” Or how about this, from Richard Peck’s A Long Way from Chicago: “You wouldn’t think we’d have to leave Chicago to see a dead body.” Who wouldn’t want to keep reading?

2. Begin with Action.

Here’s Walter Dean Myers powerful opening of Monster: “The best time to cry is at night, when the lights are out and someone is being beaten up and screaming for help.” Action can also be quiet, as in Beverly Cleary’s The Mouse and the Motorcycle: “Keith, the boy in the rumpled shorts and shirt, did not know he was being watched as he entered room 215 of Mountain View Inn.”

3. Arrive mid-conversation.

E. B. White’s Charlotte’s Web begins like this: “Where’s Papa going with that axe?” Lisi Harrison uses dialogue to start The Clique: “‘Massie, wipe that confused look off your face,’ Massie’s mom, Kendra, said. ‘It’s really very simple—you’re not going.’” Both opening lines convey conflict.

4. Begin with an omniscient passage.

Occasionally, skilled authors begin high above their protagonist before zooming in and continuing with a more intimate point of view. Swallowing Stones, by Joyce McDonald, is about the repercussions a teen faces after he discharges a rifle and accidentally kills a schoolmate’s father. In the book’s beginning, readers travel with the fatal bullet: “There is no stopping it; the bullet rips through the hot summer haze, missing trees, houses, unsuspecting birds, coming to roost, finally, like an old homing pigeon….” The stage has been set.

5. Begin by mirroring the ending.

An Na does this beautifully in A Step from Heaven. In the opening chapter, the young protagonist describes how being in her father’s arms at the seashore makes her feel safe: “I am a sea bubble floating, floating in a dream. Bhop.” Her father ultimately leaves his family, and yet in the end readers feel hopeful when they read the same words used to describe her sense of security. Laurie Halse Anderson employs a similar technique in the opening and closing of Fever, 1793. The main character experiences daybreak quite differently in the first and last chapters, which reveals how she has matured.

6. State the problem.

Simply stating the problem in the first sentence immediately takes readers to the story’s emotional heart. “He did not want to be a wringer,” Jerry Spinelli writes in Wringer, about a boy destined to wring pigeons’ necks in a local event. Many authors use this technique: “All I’ve ever wanted is for Juli Baker to leave me alone.” (Flipped, Wendelin Van Draanen.) “I am Mary. I am a witch.” (Witch Child, Celia Rees.) “Chapter One: Summer 1849 – In which I come to California, fall down a hill, and vow to be miserable here. (The Ballad of Lucy Whipple, Karen Cushman.)

7. Let your character reflect.

Julie Johnston begins Hero of Lesser Causes with this reflective moment: “It started out as a peaceful, plodding kind of summer, the summer of 1946. We didn’t know that our lives would charge wildly out of control.” For another example, see Jennifer Donnelly’s lovely Northern Light.

8. Provide a prologue.

Some writers hate prologues, but I say if it works for your story, use it. A prologue can help readers feel how desperately a protagonist does not want something to happen, as Jerry Spinelli does in Wringer. It can help readers understand what a character is about to lose, as Pam Munoz Ryan does beautifully in Esperanza Rising. And it can set a tone, as Gary Paulsen does in the marvelous prologue to The Winter Room.

Ultimately, I decided to write a prologue for Hearts of Stone. The novel originally began in the summer of 1863. Fifteen-year-old Hannah’s father had already left their home on Cumberland Mountain in East Tennessee to fight for the Union Army. Hannah is estranged from her friend Ben because his father had joined the Confederate Army. Soon orphaned, Hannah shepherds her younger siblings on the long trip to a Nashville refugee camp, all the while longing to get back home.

The problem? Too many crucial events were lost in back story. My new prologue is set in 1861, when Hannah’s father announces that he’s joining the army, and it allows readers to meet Ben while his relationship with Hannah is still good.

Finally, I worked on a first sentence that could reveal both Hannah’s conflict with her father and her strong sense of place. The book now begins this way: “Pa ripped our family apart just as spring began whispering sweet promises up on Cumberland Mountain.”

Hearts of Stone’s review in Kirkus concluded with a prediction that “Readers will be hooked from the start.” I’m glad my editor asked for a new beginning. Sometimes it really does make sense to save the first for last.

Google sued over click fraud in adwords

On June 24, 2005, a lawsuit was filed against Google for alleged click fraud on the Adwords pay-per-click program. The Plaintiff, Click Defense, claims Google failed to enact appropriate measures to guard against fraudulent clicks resulting in unwarranted marketing fees. Click Defense claims it has lost over $5 million to click fraud.

Click Fraud

“Click fraud” is a term with a unique meaning on the Internet. It refers to the deliberate clicking of pay-per-click advertisements by users that have no intent of actually making a purchase. It is common knowledge that unethical companies will set up click centers oversees where individuals are paid nominal wages to click on certain ads. Alternatively, companies will use programs called “click bots” that automatically search out ads and do the same thing. The end result, of course, is a bevy of clicks that drain advertising budgets.

Google claims it takes appropriate precautionary measures. This claim, however, is often met with a snicker since the sole source of revenues for Google is advertising. This causes an inherent conflict of interest since Google needs to maximize clicks to generate revenues. As a publicly traded company, Google is under pressure to continually show increased profits. Taking all of this into account, one must wonder how hard Google works to limit fraudulent clicks. If you have used the “content search” aspect of Google Adwords, the incredible poor conversion rates certainly must raise doubts in your mind.

Click Fraud Percentages

Neither Google, Overture nor any other search engine has been willing to publish click fraud rates for their paid advertising program. Hints have been provided regarding a rate of 20 percent. Active advertisers know, however, the percentages can be much higher depending on the competitiveness of the keywords in question. Click Defense, the Plaintiff in the lawsuit, is claiming a click fraud rate of 38 percent.

Will This Impact PPC?

The lawsuit against Google was inevitable. Every site using Adwords is aware of the problem with click fraud. Frankly, it is a problem with every pay-per-click search engine although our experience has been better with Overture.

So, will this lawsuit force the search engines to clean up their act? It’s hard to say, but there should be one definite benefit. As part of the lawsuit, Google may be forced to reveal the true click fraud percentages occurring in Adwords. If Google moves to quickly settle the case, you should take it as an indication it wants to keep the rates confidential. This, of course, will mean the click fraud percentages are high.

You should watch the progress of this lawsuit if you use pay-per-click search engines to promote your site. Some very interesting information should be revealed. Regardless of the outcome, click fraud is just another reason to pursue search engine optimization strategies.

Great tips and ideas on alarm watches

Vibrating Watches and alarm watches are becoming very popular these days and are packed with features that were not available when they first came out.

I think one of the first popular brands was Casio and I remember well spending a lot of time reading the instructions and setting my first watch up.

All though they were a new innovation at the time and they had a lot of ‘toy’ value they were not that reliable as I recall. They had many features but understanding how to set them up I found to be quite a trial.

I was surprised at how much noise one of those small wrist alarm watches could produce. So they have no problem at all in waking you up. You can of course turn the sound down. Do you remember the old fashioned mechanical alarm clocks that used to wake you up with quite a start? Well alarm watches that are set up correctly can do just as good a job without the jump factor.

They are not only useful for waking you up in the morning they have also many features that can be used throughout the day.

They can be used as popular reminder watches if say you have an important meeting to attend. Or you may have an appointment to keep. They can be used as Pill Alarm Timers so you’ll never forget to take your medication again. Some of these alarm watches have up to 200 alarms available per day to help you manage your very active and busy lifestyle.

There are even alarm watches that claim to waken you up at the most effective and alert time. How does that work you say? Well it works like this. You set the watch to waken you up not at a specific time rather a small window of time; instead of 6.45am on the dot you choose a setting between 6.30am and 7.00am.

The watch has tracked your sleep cycles all night through the different sleep states. So the watch chooses to waken you up at your most alert state some time between your chosen time points. The makers claim you will be woken at your most refreshed and energetic time. What a marvelous idea!

Alarm watches have certainly moved on over the last few years and there is a terrific range of products to choose from. The internet is the place to shop in my opinion but go for a branded company and then you are much less likely to get duped. And remember that alarm watches are also good looking these days so you can also view your watch as a fashion accessory.

Sapporo japan - an introduction

I don't know about you, but when I hear about Sapporo, the first thing that comes to mind is beer. I'm a long time Sushi eater and Sapporo is my beer of choice when eating. What you might have not known is that there's an actual city in Japan called Sapporo. In fact, that's where the beer comes from. Sapporo is a perfect place for making beer. The hops are excellent and it's cold.

Sapporo is the capital of Hokkaido Island—located in the West. It's the fastest growing city in Japan. At last check, there were more than two million living in Sapporo. It is the 5th largest city in Japan.

When many think of Japan, they think of the over crowded life in Tokyo. Life in Sapporo is much different. First of all, the island of Hokkaido is covered with forests. Many Japanese escape to the island and Hokkaido attracts millions of visitors annually. The summer is the peak time.

Earlier I mentioned the beer they make here. Sapporo has been making beer since 1891. If you visit Sapporo, you can take a tour of the facility. It's one of those must-see attractions. There's nothing like a fresh Sapporo beer.

Sapporo is also famous for its snow festival, Yuki Matsuri. It takes place for one week each year in February. It continues to grow each year. It started out as a couple of snow sculptures and has now grown to a main event held at multiple sites. Many come for the international snow sculpture competition.

Perhaps the most interest aspect of the Yuki Matsuri is the community effort given to one giant statue each year. If you arrive in Sapporo just before the festival, you can participate in the creating of this statue. It's advised that you book your stay ahead too. More than two million tourists flood into Sapporo for the Yuki Matsuri.

Another aspect I find interesting about Sapporo, as someone that doesn't speak fluent Japanese, is the fact that the tourist information centers are English-friendly. They are always staffed with personnel that speak English well. At the International Information Corner, they have maps and information handouts in English. This makes any English-speaking traveler—that doesn't speak Japanese—at home.

Another great first stop is the Sapporo International Communications Plaza. It's just across the street from the Tokeidai Clocktower and right by City Hall. It has more literature in English, including newspapers and magazines. You are bound to meet Japanese people there who know English as well. There is so much more to talk about, but this article was meant to wet your whistle for Sapporo, Japan.
