Should a kid start dieting

A “diet”, strictly speaking, refers to a certain collection of food that a person chooses to consume. In this sense, we can consider everyone to be on a diet. But the accepted connotation of the term “diet” today, is a collection of food that is meant to help a person lose weight. This diet is closely linked to the amount of calories that a person deposits in his body. The basic idea is this: if a person eats less calories than his body uses, he will become thinner; and if the body eats more calories than what his body manages to use, he will become fat.

Growing fat is so un-cool that many adults and kids would want to diet. They worry about the measurements of certain body parts but they forget about what genetics have given them. You see, not everyone has a perfect body. In fact, many artists (who study the human figure) tend to believe that the majority of the people in this world have imperfect bodies. Some are born with large frames or big bones and some are born with smaller frames. This is why a friend who is not really fat may look bigger than others simply because of his bone structure.

Adults may go on diet, but kids should avoid weight loss diets. The sole reason is that kids are still growing and developing. Certain stages of your growth will make you grow “fat” and this is normal. What kids need are a variety of foods that will supply all the needed vitamins, minerals, proteins, and carbohydrates. Skipping meals and eating a lettuce-only meals would mean that you are supplying less nutrients to your body and you may get sick or your growth would be stunted. You may even develop serious conditions such as anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa. Anorexic people cannot tolerate any food. Each time they put food in their stomach, the body reacts and vomits the food. Anorexic people are dangerously thin because they are already starving. Bulimic people, on the other hand, deliberately throw up the food they have eaten.

If you’re a kid and think that you are fat, just become more active. Join physical sports. Jog or run, instead of walking towards home or to school. What you are trying to do is to burn more calories. Okay, some kids may appear too fat that it is no longer healthy. But drastic dieting won’t help. What parents need to do is to consult a doctor. The doctor can give the proper advise on how the gain weight at a slower pace, without risking the kid’s health.

Kids should forget about weight loss diets. They should focus on becoming healthier and stronger.

Origins of the pool game

Nobody really knows the origins of billiards. The common belief is that the game originated as a game that was played outdoors which was a bit different from croquet that was played early in the 14th century in France. Its said it became quite popular and when the cold weather did not allow the game to be enjoyed outside, it moved indoors and was played on a table that was covered with green felt.

Do you know that when Mary, Queen of Scots, died, she was wrapped in a billiard cloth? Did you also know that pool was the first sport to have a world championship game in 1873? Interesting huh

There are well know historical figures that loved the billiard game. These include King Louise X1V and wife Marie Antoinette, Mozart, Abe Lincoln, Napoleon and George Washington among others.

Back then, billiard balls were made from ivory and were usually carved out from the center of an elephant’s tusk. The elephant tusks could only give you three to 4 billiard balls.

The pool game is said to have the highest average age among its players at about 35 yrs and also said to be one of the safest game in the world

“Billiard” was coined from the French word “billart” that means mace. The mace was a stick with a handle that started to be used with the game called croquet.

It was illegal

In its earliest history, the pool game was outlawed in certain. Its funny that the church in France considered pool as immoral. In the nineteenth century in America, the word “pool” room was used to mean a parlor room for horse race betting and was banned in a number of states in America.

Its said that Thomas Jefferson had a pool table that he hid in his home in Virginia. Nowadays, the terms pool room and billiard room mean the same thing.

The history of the bingo game

The bingo game is one of the most popular games in the world today. Most people are familiar with bingo games in town halls. Now there is a relatively new trend – the online bingo game.

Have you ever wondered where it all started?

The modern day bingo game was originally a form of lottery. When Italy was united in 1530, the government instituted the Italian National Lottery. The Lottery has been held almost every week since then. Today the Lottery is absolutely indispensable to the Italian government - earning more than $75 million yearly!

In 1778 Lotto caught the attention of the intellectuals. The classic Lotto game consisted out of a card that was divided into three horizontal and nine vertical rows. Each horizontal row had five numbered and four blank squares in a random arrangement. The vertical rows contained numbers from 1 to 10, the second numbers from 11 to 20, continuing up to 90. All the Lotto cards were unique. Players would be dealt a single lotto card, whilst someone would draw chips, marked from 1 to 90, from a bag and read the number aloud. Players covered the numbers on their cards if it were read. The first player to cover a complete horizontal row was the winner. In the 1800’s educational games became popular. Lotto games were adapted to teach children spelling, multiplication tables, animals and history. Even today, in the very competitive toy and game market, similar games are popular.

One evening in December 1929, toy salesman Edwin S. Lowe stopped at a carnival a few miles outside Jacksonville. Everything was closed except for one booth. The booth was packed with people. Someone would draw numbers from a bag and read it aloud. The players would all check their cards to see whether they got the number. The winner was the first person who filled a horizontal, vertical or diagonal row of numbers and yelled “Beano”. The winner would than receive a small Kewpie doll as price. As you can guess, this game was called Beano.

Lowe, who has owned his own toy store for about a year, saw the potential of the game immediately. Back home he bought some card and a rubber number stamp and produced his own beano game. Testing it on his friends he soon realized that the game was almost addictive and lots of fun. When one of his friends yelled Bingo instead of beano he knew he had found the name of his new game!

The first Lowe bingo game had two variations – a 12 card set for one dollar and a 24 card set for two dollar. The game was an instant success and soon became popular. Of course he was not the only one to recognize the potential of the bingo game. Many imitators soon tried to market the game. Lowe could not patent the game, but offered to pay his competitors $1 if they would call it Bingo.

A few months later Lowe was approached by a priest from a small parish. Someone in his parish suggested that they use the bingo game as a fundraiser to help the church out of its financial trouble. The priest bought a few sets of Lowe’s bingo game, but unfortunately always had six or more winners.

Lowe immediately saw the potential expansion of the game, but also knew that a huge variation of numbers for the bingo cards will have to be developed. He asked an elderly mathematics professor at Columbia University, Carl Leffler, to devise 6,000 new cards with non-repeating numbers. The professor agreed for a fee for each new card. But, as the professor continued, he found that it became increasingly difficult to produce new bingo cards. Lowe was impatient and at the end he paid Leffler more than $100 per new bingo card. Finally the task was completed, but rumor had it that the professor lost his sanity!

Soon the bingo game was one of the most popular games in North America, and it remains so until today. Many associate it with fundraising, but today Bingo is much more than a fundraiser in church halls.

About ten years ago the online bingo game was developed. Within five years it became even more popular than going to the movies or concerts! Many would agree that online bingo games are the best thing since sliced bread.

Of course online bingo is much more than just a game. It is a place to be with friends and to relax. Who would have guessed that one of the best games ever had such a long history?

The art of networking

As an entrepreneur you'll come in contact with numerous other business people as you conduct your day to day operations. They could be lawyers, suppliers, customers or other business services providers. These individuals are important to your business in many ways. If they bought your product or service or if you hired them, you can also gain their business knowledge, experience, ideas, and advice if you stay connected to them. This is what networking is all about. Networking is when two or more different businesses stay in contact on a regular basis to help build and improve each others business.

Some of the benefits which can be gained by talking to other business people are:

·Knowledge or information that you didn't have before

·Advice on how to solve a current business problem

·Leads to a new business project or opportunity

·Joint ventures and cross promotion deals

·Learning important skills that you didn't have before

·Constructive criticism that improves your business

·Brainstorming that sparks a profitable business idea

·Encouragement and motivation for your projects

There are several ways to network with other business people. You could participate in business expositions and trade shows. You might visit business clubs and associations or take part in on-line business related forums, e-mail discussion groups or chat rooms. By using your creativity, you could come up with even more ideas.

If you have the time, you could start your own networking group. You could hold meetings at a local seminar room, at a park, or at your own business facility. If you want to hold meetings on-line you can use a private chat room. You should publish a print or e-mail newsletter to keep members informed of meeting dates and times.

It is helpful to keep all of your business associates' contact information in one place. Make sure it is organized by business type or profession for easy searching, so when you need some advice on a new marketing campaign you can call your marketing expert. Be sure to follow up and stay in contact by phone or email on a regular basis.

Another fantastic way to network with other businesses is to operate a joint venture. This is when two or more businesses join together to work on a project for a set period of time. Participating in joint ventures with other businesses can increase your chances of beating your competition, increase your sales and increase your profits quickly. Other advantages of a joint venture are:

·money can be saved when businesses share operating costs

·referrals can come from other businesses

·valuable time can be saved when businesses share the workload

·new products and services can be offered to your customers

·new business associates can be gained

·money can be saved by sharing advertising and marketing costs

·advice and information can be obtained from other businesses

You can find joint venture opportunities with businesses online or

offline. I try to find businesses that have the same target audience, but are not in direct competition with my business. Here are a few ways to find joint ventures online:

·subscribe and participate in e-mail discussion groups, online forums and newsgroups that deal with your target audience

·subscribe to e-zines that deal with your targeted audience

·note on your Web site or e-zine that you are interested in doing joint ventures

·search in your favorite web directories and search engines to find businesses for joint ventures online

Once you find a business simply e-mail them your proposal.

Explain to the business owner the benefits of the joint venture.

Discuss why it would be a win/win situation for both of your businesses. Provide feedback regarding their business, Web site, products and services. Using the methods above will enhance your chances of constructing a profitable joint venture.

Guanajuato the land of frogs

When theme parks, beaches, scuba diving, and whale watching have lost their charm after multiple vacations to Mexico, perhaps a visit to The Land of Frogs in Central Mexico is in order.

The City of Guanajuato, which is called The Crown Jewel of Mexico’s colonial cities, was named The Land of Frogs by a group of indigenous people. By some accounts, the indigenous took one look at the terrain and said, “Nothing but frogs could live here!” Some say the indigenous found thousands of frogs in the mountainous terrain. Other accounts say it was the shape of the mountains that reminded the indigenous of frogs. Whichever account is true, Guanajuato is a place to get to know.

Guanajuato earned its place in world geography when the Spanish found the surrounding mountains rich in silver deposits. In fact, at one time more than one-third of the world’s silver riches were mined in Guanajuato. Though none of the usual summer vacation activities exist in Guanajuato, this city exudes history with every unsteady step you take through its cobblestone streets.

The state of Guanajuato is the Cradle of Mexican Independence. It was here Mexico began its quest to become Mexican. Guanajuato is the perfect spot to see where and learn how Mexico began to fight for its hard-earned independence from Spain. Although small, the city of Guanajuato has outstanding colonial architecture built with the silver revenue from times past. With modern museums, cultural events almost year-round, one of world’s oldest universities, and an almost perfect year-round temperate climate in which to enjoy this country’s Crown Jewel, Guanajuato can be the perfect alternative to the usual vacation fare.

Many first-time visitors we’ve interviewed have expressed amazement to find that Guanajuato defies their stereotypical expectation of Mexico. Many who have traveled extensively throughout Europe have told us Guanajuato could be a town from Spain or Northern Italy that was somehow magically transplanted to this side of the planet.

Depending on whom you ask, The City of Guanajuato has a population of between 100,000-120,000 people. It is nestled in a ravine with the city literally built up the sides of the bowl-like surrounding mountains. If nothing else, a trip to Guanajuato would be worth the time and expense just to marvel at how the Mexicans figured out how to build this city. To call it a marvel is a gross understatement.

Another marvel to behold is Guanajuato’s system of underground tunnels. Originally, the Guanajuato River flowed through the center of town. Numerous devastating floods occurred over the centuries, and engineers decided to divert the river away from the middle of town in the early 1900ґs. After diverting the river, the riverbed was turned into a maze of underground streets--this time to divert traffic.

How To Get Here

More American tourists we meet are driving to Guanajuato. This is not as difficult as one might imagine. Go to Google. com and type “driving to Mexico”. You will find numerous articles on the logistics of driving here. The only problem you will encounter when arriving in Guanajuato is parking. Although city officials are working to solve this problem by building more parking facilities, it is a nightmare. Parking is at a premium and you will rarely find adequate and safe parking near your hotels.

The best way to arrive in Guanajuato is to fly to Leon, Guanajuato. From there, you can take a cab for about $25.00-$30.00 to Guanajuato. It is about a 45-minute ride.

A way to combat the difficulty of your Leon cabbie knowing where your lodging is located, especially if you have arranged a private apartment for your vacation stay, is to have the Leon cabdriver take you to the Guanajuato’s Holiday Inn or to the bus station. From there, it is a simple matter of switching to a Guanajuato cabdriver who will know where everything is in Guanajuato’s confusing maze of streets.

Lodging

Guanajuato has a large influx of wealthy travelers to whom the hotel industry caters lavishly. You can find accommodations to boggle the mind and pocketbook.

Content writing for your website s audience

What do you know about your website's audience? How well do you understand them? As with any communications medium, the web requires authors to have a good understanding about those with whom they wish to communicate.

Content writing can be one of the most difficult parts of search engine marketing. You need to write to please both the search engines and your website’s audience. A good Search Engine Marketer (SEM) will understand his or her target audience. A great way to understand your targets audience’s nature, you can conduct online market research. Doing thorough research can bring valuable information such as the keywords that you as an SEM needs to be targeting. When writing your content these keywords need to be weaved into it while still focusing on the purpose on the content.

When it comes to content writing the first thing you need to keep in mind is that your audience needs to be drawn in. The content needs to be interesting, descriptive and it needs to lead the audience to a purchase decision.

How your content is written can affect how your website appears in relation to its competition. To search engines such as Google, the content of your website is very important. You can no longer just pummel your content with one specific keyword to try fooling search engines into listing your website higher in its rankings. Many search engines now search your copy for relevancy, making their results more valuable to users.

Another useful byproduct of writing quality content for visitors is that if they like it, they will link to it. This will result in the page (and the site) climbing even higher in the search engines' rankings.

In the end it is your website visitors that you should write for and not the search engines. Search engines are looking to please their users and so should you.

Health insurance

Health insurance is designed to offer financial protection against losses experienced due to illness, accidents, or injury. This type of insurance comes in many forms that offer differing levels of coverage. It can be purchased as part of a group policy or may be purchased by an individual.

Group policies are generally purchased through an employer, associations, or unions. They may be less expensive because the costs associated with administration are reduced. In addition, the employees or association may pay part of the premium.

Group health insurance has become an incentive for potential employees who are trying to cover their or their families' health care expenses. Some policies offer managed care. Depending on the policies of a managed care provider, preventative health care may be part of the plan. Preventative measures may include regular checkups.

Individuals may purchase individual health insurance polices in the absence of company provided benefits or if they are self-employed. Generally individual health plans can be more expensive, however, they also have some benefits.

For example, individual policies can be customized for your specific needs. Shopping around for health insurance can be helpful by allowing you to compare the benefits and cost of different types of coverage. Consulting with caring agents will help you determine the policy that is best for you and what level of coverage you'll need.

You may be able to save money on the premium of your policy if you carry a higher deductible. The deductible is the amount of out of pocket expenses you pay before your coverage begins.

Health insurance can cover a variety of expenses. For example, it may pay for the cost of hospitalization or surgery. It may also pay other hospital expenses such as the cost of the hospital room.

All health insurance policies are not equal in this regard. Some policies will pay a flat rate daily for the cost of a room. Other types may pay everything after the deductible for the room.

Health insurance may also cover expenses due to a disability, and may cover rehabilitation such as physical therapy, or aftercare. Disability insurance, a type of health insurance, may pay expenses for loss of income in addition to health care expenses.

Some policies also provide benefits for medication or necessary medical devices such as a pacemaker. Also, some contemporary health insurance policies provide some dental coverage. However, it's important to note that levels of coverage will vary between policies, sometimes significantly.

Health insurance may also cover you for existing conditions; however there may be up to a year delay before coverage begins for policies of people with pre-existing conditions.

Health insurance may seem like an undue expense when you are young and healthy, but it's invaluable when you need it most. Consult with a health insurance agent to make sure you have a good understanding of the benefits of your plan. They can help you answer any questions you may have about the conditions and benefits of your policy.

It can also be helpful to compare a number of health insurance companies, so you can get the best policy for your individual needs at the lowest rate.

Becoming educated about your policy from enrollment on can help reduce stress levels during a medical emergency. In this way you can also be more proactive with your own care. And you can have peace of mind knowing that if an unexpected situation happens, you will be covered.

How to conference call

Conference calling is one of the best business solutions to conduct a meeting over the telephone, in which more than three persons can participate to share some points. Or in other words, it is a means of communicating with more than one person simultaneously, without actually being physically present at a designated place. Conference calling offers mainly three modes for communication, i. e., audio, video, and web based conference calls. It is obvious that these conference calls eliminate a major cost for the companies, and therefore, are very much advantageous for the organizations. Some of the advantages offered by these conference calls are:

Cost Effective Process: Though the fee for availing the service varies with service providers, yet conference call is a much economical option to conduct a virtual meeting and to convey the message to the people concerned. Because in conducting a meeting with the conventional processes, a lot of travel expenses and hotel accommodation expenses are involved; whereas in case of conference calling, nothing of that sort is required.

Time saving process: It is as easy as thinking of talking to some persons and you can make a conference call immediately. Usually it is very good option for conferences that are called on very short notices. It also does not involve any loss of work and the message can be conveyed at a faster pace.

Helps in relation building: It is sometimes difficult for a business to conduct meetings for every segment of employees at regular intervals, which may lead to some misconceptions among employees and they may feel neglected. However, conference calling can eliminate such situations and helps in building good employer-employee relationship.

Simple and easily accessible: The service provider links the persons to be involved in a conference call and the persons do not need to have any special equipment for the same, as it simply linked with the ordinary phone or mobile phone. The person conducting a conference call is facilitated with a speaker, so that all persons involved must be heard at that point. The other persons can talk with the main conductor from their places.

Facilitate Data transfer: Audio conference calling is limited only to transfer instructions or views verbally; but via video conferencing, it is possible to transfer presentations or data to all the persons. With this service there will be no mistakes in sending and receiving instructions, as if there is any, one can clear it immediately and correct it.

Distance is not a problem: With the help of conference calling, the limitations of distance can be eliminated, as it can be used for talking to persons anywhere around the globe. That is why it is most commonly used by small as well as big business houses for communication purposes.

From the above advantages that conference calling provide, we can easily gauge the importance that they hold for any business model and organization setup—they are indispensable!

Self hypnosis for better health

Self hypnosis, in one form or another has been practiced for a very long time. While it is a serious therapeutic technique, self hypnosis is also a very soothing and calming experience and if practiced regularly, can help you transform yourself.

Originally, self hypnosis was thought of as sleep, then as an "altered state of consciousness". Only after using instruments to monitor brain activity did researchers learn that there was negligible difference between someone in a trance or hypnosis, and someone not. Peoples experiences with self hypnosis vary widely depending on their own expectations, but there are some commonalities. For instance, most people experience a reduced awareness of events going on around them including noises and conversations. Although people are not unconscious when under self hypnosis, many experience extreme relaxation and seem to have reduced awareness of their own body including their arms and legs.

Nearly everyone can learn effective techniques for self hypnosis. Whether your goal is weight loss or to stop smoking, self hypnosis can be a very useful treatment option for many different health and emotional problems.

Let's look at the reasons why self hypnosis can be such an appealing option:

1. It is not a drug, so therefore there are no side effects.

2. It is non-invasive which means there is no surgery and nothing gets inserted into the body.

3. Self hypnosis is also relatively inexpensive when compared to other forms of treatment, and can usually show results within one or two treatments.

Self hypnosis is the original mind/body medicine. It helps you regulate your behavior, alter your thoughts, and use your mind to control your body. To be effective, you must get into a meditative state to change your thought process in order to change your behavior. However, this does not mean you have to be in a relaxed state so to speak. Although this is helpful, self hypnosis can be effective even when you're tense, upset, or unhappy.

As you begin to learn about self hypnosis, you will discover a method that works best for you. Doing this without any guidance from anyone can be difficult. The first step in achieving your goals with self hypnosis is to research and learn as much as you can on the subject so you know what to expect.

Self hypnosis is a very powerful tool you can use to change just about any aspect of yourself, but it is not a magic cure and is usually only effective if you truly want to make a change.

Web hosting provider reviews from webhostingadvice. net

:
Webhostingadvice. net offers advice to people of all levels to assist in the process of choosing the best web-hosting provider. Given the large amount of companies offering similar web hosting services, choosing a web host can be hard.

Webhostingadvice. net has conveniently selected the TOP 10 most affordable web hosts and placed them in a comparison chart for your benefit.

There are so many different web hosts in the market today, finding a web hosting provider that suits your site's specific needs can be much harder than you think.

If you are starting a website or choosing a web host for the first time, there are a number of factors that you should take into account.

One of the most important factors is bandwidth or transfer. Bandwidth or transfer is measured by multiplying the size of your site with the number of visitors you get a month. Our experience with web hosts is that even cheap web hosting services will provide you with more than enough bandwidth or transfer.

Disk space is a key factor, which you will encounter right at the beginning of your journey onto the web. Bigger sites that contain heavy files (sound files, images etc.) will require more disk space than smaller, simpler sites. Most sites are between 10-20kb which is more than enough for nearly any web hosting provider.

Probably the most important concern for a beginner is support. Before choosing a web host, make sure that you are comfortable with level of support provided. A cheap web host may only offer email support whilst a more sophisticated yet affordable web-hosting provider will provide live chat, online tutorials, 24-hour phone support and forums. For those intending to conduct business online, immediate support is crucial – it can make or break your online business.

In addition to the above factors, you cannot avoid doing your own research. We encourage you to visit each host and analyze their services carefully. Many hosts offer a 30-day free trial period. This is a great way to test their service and make sure that it suits the needs of your website. Another suggestion is to speak to them personally and ask them the right questions about their service. You will be able to tell pretty quickly whether the particular host is responsive enough to your needs and is willing to accompany you in your online experience

Selection based on your personality and places

It is worth meaningful and really a wondrous idea to select a fragrance that would complement the aura of your personality. This is the primary formula to select and pick the right bottle of perfume. The salient thing that has to be kept in the forefront of the mind is that the selected perfume must never mark a dominating effect on your personality. Whether it is the “Exuberant” or “Dunhill Desire Blue” or “ Ralph Lauren’s Polo Sport” it should suit your persona to the fullest extent.

The selection of fragrances varies greatly according to the places you go. If you are planning to go to a cocktail and dance party with so many guests, it is advisable that you must chose such perfumes that allows to create a cloud of vapor of some hard fragrance. A couple of whiffs of Dior’s Dunes are great for such situations, while it may prove to be worst while setting out for a formal business meeting. In case of the formal meetings and offices little bit of sophistication with soft fragrance would add special meaning to your personality.

Hence while shopping for the perfumes it is significant that you should better know as to what purpose you are actually going to choose the perfume for. Your pick should be different if you are planning to purchase the perfume to be used while attending a wedding party than that while attending an interview or an official meeting. Remember that in each of the two different situations you are going to present yourself with two distinctive personalities – although the character may be the same.

Choices for him

Amongst the awe-inspiringly huge assortment of perfumes – for both oriental and occidental brands of male perfumes, some of the worth mentioning names have been admired to be the excellent choices. The names that have the charismatic effects and sell like the hot cakes are the Curious, Dior’s Dunes, Desire, Glow, Obsession, and some more like these.

On the other level, the sharp yet soft oriental woody scent of the Angels, Roger & Gallet would mark your fashion and style of stepping into the threshold of the conference hall or the director’s chamber.

Choices for her

Reputable designers have always been looking for scopes to satisfy the ever-lasting demand of the exotic fragrances for the world’s fashionable women section. While the “Burberry Weekend”, “Carolina Herrera” and “Chacherel’s Amor” for women have been widely admired by the office goers, the names like “Bvlgari Green Tea”, “Estee Lauder’s Pleasures”, “Loves Baby “– the floral elegance and etc. are excellent choices for party lovers.

Find out the advantages of traveling on cruise ships

A cruise ship can be likened to a floating palace. It can afford the traveler an opportunity to relax, enjoy the ocean breeze and escape the rigors of everyday life. However, a cruise ship is also a place where one can gamble, dance the night away, and indulge in some masterfully prepared food.

As far as cruise ships go, variety is the key word. Some cruise ships are small and intimate, with room for only about 500 passengers. Then there are cruise ships so large that you could virtually get lost on them, and they can accommodate upwards of 4,000 passengers. Each cruise ship has its own special amenities and features, so before booking your cruise you will need to decide what type of trip you are looking for and do a bit of research.

Larger cruise ships will of course have more to offer than the smaller cruise ships. Those cruise ships that can accommodate thousands and thousands of passengers feature such amenities as personal choice dining. This option allows you to choose between casual, traditional, or specialty menus. Many cruise ships also have full service restaurants aboard, as well as exquisite dining rooms. The entertainment options on large cruise ships is also quite varied; choose from plush nightclubs, live bands, big screen movies, live theater as well as swanky casinos.

If you prefer to stay active during your time on the cruise ship, many of them offer 9 hole putting courses, jogging tracks, various swimming pools and spas, yoga classes as well as work out gyms. After a day full of activity, you can wind down by taking advantage of the ships’ library, or by browsing through the art gallery, as many larger cruise ships have on display beautiful art collections.

If you are a die-hard shopper, you will certainly be able to indulge on a cruise ship. Many of them feature glorious boutiques that carry upscale, name brand clothing and gift items. Shop for jewelry, perfume, or maybe a special souvenir for that friend you left back on dry land!

The room options aboard a cruise ship will leave you wondering; suite with a balcony, ocean view or interior room, family suite, mini-suite or a grand suite? The possibilities seem endless. Furthermore, you can also rest assured that in the unlikely event that should you become injured or ill while aboard the cruise ship, there is always a licensed medical doctor aboard, as well as a trained medical staff.

Another cool thing about cruise ships is that they go just about anywhere you could possibly imagine. While enjoying your journey, you will probably have the opportunity to travel ashore as the cruise ship docks and allows time for day trips. A cruise ship can be a wonderful way to spend a vacation, and with so many options, you will be able to find a cruise ship that offers exactly what you are looking for.

Naming a business mom knows best

Have you ever had to participate in naming a baby? Parents naturally know the vast importance of a name. Have you ever met a mom-to-be that didn't fret over what she was going to call her child? She certainly has good reason to spend so much time coming up with the perfect name for Junior. After all, good and bad names can be forever. It's too bad many entrepreneurs don't spend as much time thinking through the name they will use for their business.

People naming businesses don't always understand the ramifications of picking the perfect name. Where parents spend countless hours and even sleepless nights picking their child's name, a business may be named in a few short minutes.

Comparing the two name choosing processes can lead to better business and product names. A business name, just like a person's name, sets the tone of the business. When choosing names you should limit the number of people involved in the process. You should also strive to find a name that is recognizable but unique while avoiding far-out, unpronounceable combinations. Like all good marketing endeavors, the rules of picking names, even my rules, are made to be broken.

Carefully Decide The Personallity Of Your Company Or Product First

Names set the tone for personality and they tend to be forever. If you go by the name Jonathan Edward Winthrop, III you are telling the world something about your personality. What would you immediately think of when you met someone with that kind of name? You are also telling people something about your personality if you tell people, "just call me Jon." One name is stuffy and alludes to a rich and formal persona and the other is a fun loving "normal" guy. The name is the first indication of a person's personality. Business names are the first indication of the personality of a business too.

Jonathan Edward Winthrop, III versus Jon. One of these names is equivalent to naming a law firm and the other is the model name for a skate board shop. Think Apple Computers versus IBM. Get it? They are both great computers but one is know as the fun creative computer and one is know as the business computer. Basically they do the same things. So, before you even start picking names, decide on the personality you want your business to project.

Limit The Number Of Decision Makers

Parents are normally limited to two decision makers when picking names. Occasionally a mother-in-law or a "helpful" friend gets involved in the process. A few men I've known left the naming decision completely up to their wives. You normally have two decision makers, at times three or more, and occasionally one. Which do you think is an easier and less painful process? No matter if you are naming a baby or a business; I'll guarantee the one person decision maker is the fastest and easiest path but also might not the perfect solution.

Just like working on a name with your spouse, in business you must find a decision making balance. I would try to get the owner or president, a creative type, and someone with some advertising knowledge involved. In the case of a one person start-up, you wear all those hats anyway, so lucky you, you are back to the one person decision; well unless you want to get your mother-in-law involved. Hey, she may be a creative type.

Don't Be Afraid To Make A Change Or Break Some Rules

Some people change their names when they reach adulthood. While making a change can be a wonderful experience, twenty, or more years of name recognition is lost. Think of all those family reunions where you would have to tell people, "My name used to be..." The same applies for a business. Can you imagine trying to change an established name like Starbucks? Then again, if your parents gave you a name like Hornbuckle, can you imagine not trying to make a change? People pick weird names for their kids and businesses everyday. You're sure to have seen a business name that not even a mother could pronounce.

Sometimes breaking the rules wins the game. A company name like Yahoo doesn't fit my rules, but the company is quite successful. If you choose to go the path of a Yahoo, be prepared to open your wallet and spend big bucks to heavily promote your company name. You will need to create name recognition for a name that means absolutely nothing to the general public.

When you decide to pick a name for your business, think of it like you are naming a child. After all, this growing business is your baby too. Spend a lot of time choosing your company name. If you're lucky, like your kids, your new company name will last longer than you.

Automatic responder- the power of autoresponders

An individual business owner and trying your best to get by in the e-commerce world? Surely you get tired of answering the same repetitive questions every day, but you must remember that customer service is a key factor of running a successful business. If you have a designated e-mail address to answer customer service inquiries, you might want to look into autoresponders as a tool to make your life easier, or even replace an employee!

Autoresponders are one of the most underused and useful technologies available to business owners today. They can be used for everything from automated replies to common questions to a carefully scripted series of sales letters to your customer base for an ongoing stream of income. The power of this technology can turn the corner for a business looking for profit.

Autoresponders are so economical, you might think to yourself, “Why didn’t I do this earlier?” Just as any other software or computer application, there are free and cheap ways of getting by. Autoresponders are great for answering frequently asked questions, and advertising. What’s better than free or cheap advertising? Nothing… A few ways that an autoresponder will positively revolutionize your business:

1. You can distribute what’s known as a newsletter or e-article to all of your customers. This can include specials, news, and other positive things to keep your customers coming back.

2. Update your customers with information which other business don’t do, and make your business-customer relationship feel more personal.

3. You can distribute your mass e-mails to clients with autoresponders, vs. sending e-mails one by one.

4. Update clients with information on new products that you have when they have completed their courses.

5. Have fun with your customers! Create contests, and even interactive games like puzzles. Make an incentive like a discount on their next purchase.

How to pay off your 30 year mortgage in 12 years

Is the thought of making 360 monthly mortgage payments getting the best of you? Will the feeling of helplessness

just not let up?

Are you frustrated out of your mind when you think about all of the years you'll be making those huge mortgage payments and all of the $100,000's of interest charges that lie BEFORE YOU?

Have you tried everything from bi-weekly mortgage schemes, answering every internet refinance advertisement, sending the bank another $20 with each monthly payment, etc. to payoff your mortgage early -- with little or no results?

And if you are like most Americans, you only stay in your home for an average of 5-7 years before you move to a new home. And then you start the thirty year mortgage process all over AGAIN!

How can you ever get financially ahead and pay off your mortgage if you keep beginning the process over and over again?

Well, what if your mortgage lender called you today and said something like...

"if you qualify for our new mortgage acceleration program, we would like to cut up to 18-22 years off your mortgage term. And we're not going to change anything at all with your current payments"...

What would you say to an offer like that?

Is there even one homeowner in America that would honestly say "NO" to that program?

That's right.

There is an easy way to payoff your mortgage in as little as 12 years or even LESS. With no refinancing your current mortgage and without sending your lender larger or more frequent payments.

That is true whatever type of mortgage that you have -- even if it is a fixed or an adjustable mortgage rate, 30 or even 40 years long, whether your mortgage balance is only $100,000 or over one million. It doesn't matter.

And if you have credit card debt that makes you feel like you are drowning in high interest rates that result in huge monthly minimum payments, you can solve that problem as well.

In fact, I would suggest getting rid of that debt before starting to payoff your mortgage debt since personal credit card debt is non deductible off your income taxes.

I'm often asked questions like, are you sure that I don't have to get a NEW mortgage? Do I have higher monthly expenses so that I have to change my current lifestyle? Am I ever locked into anything?

The answer to all of those questions is NO!

Well why hasn't my bank told me how I can pay off my mortgage in less than half the time it takes your neighbors?

Let me ask you? Why would they? Why would they want to stop getting 30 years of interest income (your payments) and just settle for 7-14 years of payments? It is not to the lender's benefit to tell you how get become debt free!

Did you know that with a 30 year mortgage at 7%, that about 80% of all your mortgage payments during the first 5 years of the loan are interest.

Did you know that it isn't until some point in the 20th year that even half of your monthly mortgage payment goes towards paying down you principle (your loan balance)?

Let me give you an example of a typical client:

Mr. and Mrs. Smith earn $3,000 combined every two weeks in take-home pay (after taxes and benefits). Their normal monthly bills (excluding the mortgage) run $3,000 each month.

They live in a home worth $250,000 with a $200,000 current mortgage balance with 25 years remaining on the loan. Their loan interest rate is 6.25% with a monthly payment of $1,539 (excluding taxes and insurance).

With this set of assumptions, how long would it take the Smiths to FULLY pay off their mortgage with this financial strategy?

Just under 10 years!!

How much interest would the Smiths save over their 30 year original mortgage plan without using this strategy?

$261,700

So they saved over a quarter of a million dollars in interest and saved years of writing and mailing those hefty monthly mortgage checks! After paying off their mortgage, they get to keep that $1,539 payment every month and use if for their kid's college or to prepare for retirement, travel or whatever they want!

All with no re-financing and without sending larger or more frequent payments to the lender. They were never locked into anything and retained complete flexibility.

And your interest savings could be much much more -- especially if you have a jumbo mortgage or have a higher interest rate.

There's an old saying that those who understand interest, collect it while those who don't... pay it!

To learn more about how you can pay off your mortgage quicker than you ever thought possible, please visit the website listed in the author BIO box.

Information about germanium supplments

Dietary supplements containing germanium started becoming popular in the 1970s in Japan. From there it spread to other countries, where it became known as an elixir against certain diseases. Germanium is found in the Earth’s crust. Plants and the human body also show traces of germanium. This element is available in plenty of plant foods such as vegetables, leguminous seeds, wheat and bran; while it is almost nonexistent in animal foods. Germanium is considered to be the prime reason why nutritional practitioners recommend taking garlic, ginseng, mushroom, and comfrey. Some organic complexes of germanium have shown the capacity to curtail the growth of tumors in animals.

A lack of germanium is associated with infection and immune disorders, but the biological role of germanium is still unclear. Germanium is not an essential element. The nutritional supplement form of germanium is known as germanium sesquioxide or Ge-132. This is a synthetic organic product found naturally. This form of germanium has been used to boost the immune system and improve body system functioning. Germanium products have been used to treat a variety of problems like arthritis, heart disease, AIDS, cataracts and cancer. People suffering from neurosis, asthma, diabetes, hypertension and hepatitis also find relief after taking germanium. It is said that germanium causes the production of interferon, which is a naturally occurring anti-cancer agent. By boosting the activity of the natural killer cells in the body, germanium helps the immune system to fight invading germs. To some extent, disease states like osteoporosis and heart disease have responded favorably to germanium therapy. Strong oxygen regulation and antioxidant activity is undertaken by germanium in the human body.

But there is no scientific evidence as to the benefits of germanium. Many herbal supplements containing germanium are mixed with possibly harmful impurities/additives, rendering them dangerous. The use of germanium has been associated with various side effects, so it is dangerous to use this product without consulting a physician. Though its actual toxicity is low, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reported that supplements that contain germanium present a potential hazard to humans. Therefore the FDA has banned the import of germanium. At least 31 human cases have linked prolonged intake of germanium supplements with kidney failure and even death. Interestingly, germanium found naturally in food products do not appear to be toxic.

Germanium products are available in powdered form or as capsules. The peculiarity of the structure of germanium causes it to be easily contaminated with inorganic germanium, which is more toxic. It is unclear whether the side effects associated with it are due to organic germanium or due to the supplement’s interaction with inorganic germanium. In a study conducted on a small group of humans, even small levels of germanium have been found to be toxic. In many patients, their symptoms got worse, and illness was compounded by side effects. Scientists are vociferous in their warning that inorganic germanium may lead to permanent kidney damage and even death.

Germanium may also interfere with other medications and make certain symptoms worse (seizures, for instance). Very little is known about the effects of germanium on pregnant women. Therefore such women should never take germanium, unless advised by a physician. Other ill effects include weight loss, anemia, vomiting, muscle weakness, and numbness in the hands and feet. The deadly effects of the toxin builds up with time, and in the long run, symptoms get worse.

Profit from writing

If you’re passionate about writing and want to make it your career, you need to be resourceful, professional, determined and self-motivated to succeed. Writing for a living isn’t easy and unless you’ve already landed a five figure book deal for your latest novel, you need to be as creative in generating income as you are with your words.

To help you profit from writing, here are a few opportunities to explore:

Writing for Magazines

This is the starting point for many freelance writers who want to be published and paid. Magazines require good content and many editors still rely on freelance writers to provide it. Although the market is competitive, if you can produce well-researched, original articles to suit the magazine’s style and readership, you’ll have a greater chance of winning a commission.

My tips: Focus on writing about what you know, drawing upon any specialist knowledge or interests. Use the Internet to study publications all over the world to increase your markets.

Write Greetings Card Verses

Greetings card companies often seek original verse or prose for their range of cards. If you have a forte for writing short humorous or meaningful passages, this could provide a successful opening for you.

My tips: Take a look at the verses in greetings cards to study their style. Create a few sample verses. Note the name of the greetings card publisher and contact them for their current requirements.

Create Copy for the Business Sector

One of the more lucrative writing opportunities is copywriting for businesses and public sector organisations. If your writing is concise, clear and fresh, you’ll find there is a market for your services producing leaflets, guides, press releases, advertising copy and web content.

My tips: Produce a portfolio of your work to show the diversity of your skills. Attend a business network event to market your services.

Take a Staff Writing Job

Freelance writing is great but if you prefer the relative security of a regular income and the warmth and vitality of a creative office environment, you might consider applying for a staff based writing position. Many opportunities exist for journalists, copywriters, web content writers, editors and feature writers. Recently, a major company even required the services of a dedicated letter writer! The skills of a quality writer are in demand and you’ll find that most salaries reflect this.

My tips: Spend time writing a professional CV and produce some sample writing. First impressions count!

Become a Ghost-writer!

Some writers make a reasonable living ghost-writing other people’s life stories. You can receive payment on a work-for-hire basis or on a royalty share agreement. If you enjoy interviewing people and writing at length, this will have great appeal.

My tips: Speak to other ghost-writers and research the book publishing field so that you gain a reasonable working knowledge of the current trends.

Compile Crosswords, Puzzles and Fillers

Writing short filler material, from anecdotes to puzzles, can be quite rewarding. Many publications feature a regular crossword to entertain their readers. Although considered to be quite a closed-market, it is worth approaching publications with ideas or samples for consideration.

My tips: Research your markets carefully. Target new publications where there may be openings. Offer fillers and puzzles relevant to the target readership.

Expand Your Range of Services

Some writers find it easy spotting typos or English grammar mistakes. If you’re one of them, consider taking a course in editing or proofreading to expand on your range of wordsmith services! There is often a decent demand for these services so it will provide an additional source of revenue.

My tips: Take a course and gain a qualification. Contact publishing companies as many now use the services of freelance copyeditors and proofreaders.

Self-Publish

If you have specialist knowledge, consider writing and self-publishing a book or a series of guides or newsletters! With the right topic and good marketing, you can build a niche publication. For example, some authors have turned their hobby of walking into providing guidebooks and newsletters on local walks. You could do something similar, whether your interest is sewing, cycling, cooking or woodworking.

My tips: try print-on-demand publishing or publishing electronically to keep costs down while you’re building your publishing venture.

Good luck in your career as a writer! With the right approach, you’ll find there are many opportunities to become a successful wordsmith.

Can necklaces mean a pain in the neck

The wearing of jewellery has been with us across the ages with both men and women seeking to adorn their persons with these ornamental devices. The word jewellery is anglicised from an old French word “joule” (jewel), but the origin can be further traced back to the Latin word “jocale” which means plaything.

Although we typically think of jewellery as being made from precious metals and gemstones, over the centuries it has been made from a variety of materials such as cloth, wood, shells, rocks and stone. In fact man has been very ingenious and artistic in creating jewellery from just about anything and in many different styles from the plain and simple to the highly elaborate.

Items of jewellery have also been adopted as potent symbols and even worn to ward off evil spirits or to help overcome enemies in battle.

Examples of jewellery being worn other than for adornment, are necklaces such as the cross or crucifixes worn by Christians as potent religious symbols. Other religious types of necklaces are pendants known as amulets, which are figures or symbols of varying shapes and sizes, which are hung on a chain round the neck.

Necklaces called lockets, which are usually heart shaped are worn as a symbol of love and open up to reveal a picture or lock of hair from a cherished one.

Necklaces and pendants are both worn around the neck but a pendant usually means a hanging object although it can be hanging from a neck chain or an earring. A choker is also a form of necklace but is worn high around the neck and can also have a pendant hanging from it.

Perhaps the most bizarre form of necklaces are those worn by the Pa Dong Long Neck people who are part of the Karen tribal group that live along the border between Thailand and Burma. From the age of 6 years old, brass rings are snapped around the necks of young girls, a few every year, up to a limit of 20 rings although there is a woman on record as having 28 around her neck. As they progress from childhood to womanhood, their necks appear to elongate although apparently what really happens is that the weight of the rings crushes the women’s collarbones giving the illusion of a very long neck.

It is said that these women only remove the brass rings on their wedding night with a long drawn out process involved, which involves much neck washing. As brass often tends to discolour the skin one can imagine that there may be a rather nasty green mess under those rings. After the wedding night, the rings are replaced and must remain in place for life, as the women’s neck muscles are now no longer strong enough to support the length of the neck and the weight of the head on their own.

This wearing of neck rings was also a practice adopted by women in South Africa and in particular those from the Ndebele tribe and these women have often been referred to as giraffe women because of their long necks. The Ndebele women traditionally wore copper and brass rings around their necks arms and legs as a symbol of their status in society and after marriage as a symbol of her bond and faithfulness to her husband. Husbands would provide their wives with these rings and the richer her spouse the more rings she would wear and they would only be removed after his death as they were believed to have strong ritual powers.

Thankfully, in both the Pa Dong and the Ndebele tribes, this traditional practice is no longer popular and is now dying out in favour of the more usual types of necklaces.

July 2, 2006

Appropriately rested from my action packed day yesterday I had a leisurely breakfast and headed out on the subway at 9:30 am. I love the subway system in Montreal since it’s safe, efficient and all the major sights are accessible via underground transportation. And the interesting thing is the trains run on rubber wheels - none of that metallic clanking that I am so used to from places like Toronto, New York City or Chicago...

My first destination for this morning was Montreal’s Olympic complex, located in the Hochelaga-Maissoneuve area, originally a city founded in 1883 by local farmers. Hochelaga-Maissoneuve was integrated into Montreal in 1918 and today is one of Montreal’s main working class neighbourhoods whose residents are 90% French-speakers.

Montreal’s Olympic Stadium is best accessed from the Pie IX subway station and upon leaving the station I walked across the vast concrete expanses surrounding this historic stadium, built for the 1976 Summer Olympics. One of it’s nicknames is the “Big O” and it was supposed to be one of the most advanced structures of its time, holding just over 56,000 people. It featured a retractable roof that was held in place by cables suspended from a 556 foot tall tower, incidentally the highest inclined tower in the world.

The stadium was extremely expensive and its final cost came to more than C$1 billion, the debt on which was only paid off by the city in 2006. Interestingly, Jean Drapeau, Montreal’s mayor at the time, announced that “The Olympics can no more have a deficit than a man can have a baby”, now a popular quote among Montreal residents. Due to various strikes, construction delays and complications, the retractable roof did not open until 1988, but that option was abandoned in 1992 in favour of a new stationary roof which continued to have various structural problems and a new replacement roof is being considered for installation once again. Despite these issues, Montreal's Olympic Park is a sight to behold and an interesting place to explore.

Between 1977 and 2004 the Montreal Olympic Stadium was the home of the Montreal Expos Major League Baseball team which was transferred to Washington, D. C., in the 2005 season. It also used to be the home of the Montreal Alouttes, Montreal’s team in the Canadian Football League. Today the stadium is used for a variety of purposes including trade fairs, sporting matches, motorized sports, live shows, exhibitions, film shoots, balls, social activities and more. Since its opening, Montreal's Olympic Stadium has been one of the busiest covered stadiums in the world.

Montreal’s Olympic Stadium is a fascinating, unusual yet aesthetic building and I decided to explore it in more detail by taking the funicular which in about 5 minutes takes you to an observation deck that provides a 360 degree of Montreal. Going up you have an unobstructed view eastwards towards the pyramid-shaped buildings of the former Olympic Village and at the top I enjoyed a perfect view of downtown and the skyscrapers, Montreal Royal and the various bridges spanning the St. Lawrence River.

The former Olympic cycling track, called the Biodome, has been converted into an artificial habitat that features four different ecosystems: a Tropical Forest, a Laurentian Forest, a St. Lawrence Marine Ecosystem and the Polar Worlds of the Arctic and the Antarctic. For me, my next item on the agenda was the Montreal Botanical Garden. I left the Olympic Stadium and walked under the Sherbrooke Street bridge and found myself right next to the entrance gates of Montreal’s Botanical Garden. The C$12.75 entrance fee gives you access to both the gardens as well as the Insectarium, so I started off with an indepth introduction to the world of insects.

Open since 1990, the Montreal Insectarium holds hundreds of species of butterflies, moths, bugs and spiders. Its scientific collections hold 140,000 specimens and its exhibition collection consists of about 20,000, about 4000 of which are on public display. There is also a live collection of arthropods with about 100 species. Not only does the Insectarium focus on the science of insects, but it also explores insects in an artistic, cultural and even gastronomical context. In 2005 it even held an insect tasting event!

Well, this scientific introduction had warmed me up enough to continue my explorations outside in the Botanical Garden. Right across from the Insectarium is a marsh and bog garden garden that features a variety of gorgeous water lily specimens.

Moving on from there is a sizeable rose garden with about 10,000 roses from many different varieties. The roses were a bit past their bloom, but I would imagine that this garden must look just magnificent when everything is in full bloom.

A bit further to the north is the Japanese Garden, designed as a contemporary garden by renowned Japanese garden designer Ken Nakajima. All the elements, stones, water features and plants have been chosen carefully and are imbued with a unique symbolism. The Chinese Garden next to it is a result of a bond between the Montreal Botanical Garden and the Parks Department of the City of Shanghai. More than 120 containers were shipped from Shanghai in 1990 and 50 Chinese craftsmen were needed to assemble the components to build the garden.

I then strolled through the First Nations garden which reflects a natural environment and is the first facility of its kind in Montreal. After walking through some serene ponds and woodlands I reached the Shade Garden which hosts a large collection of primroses, astilbes, hostas and ferns and proves that even shady areas can feature brilliant colours and a variety of foliage and blossoms. Now it was serious time for an ice cream and I sat down one of the tables outside the Fuji Pavilion which is a 66-seat restaurant providing cold beverages, ice cream and frozen yogurt and light meals.

After my little rest there was another part of the city that I wanted to explore and that was Little Italy. So I decided to take the free shuttle bus that connects the Olympic Stadium, the Biodome, the Insectarium and the Botanical Garden and was comfortably whisked to the nearby Vieau subway station. From there I took the subway to the Jean Talon station, along one of the major east-west thoroughfares of Montreal.

Like many cities in North America, Montreal has a large Italian community. Actually, Italians represent Montreal’s largest ethnic group. Many immigrants came over from Italy as early as the beginning of the 19th century and many of them went into the hotel and restaurant business. The majority of them arrived after the Second World War, and most of those immigrants came from the poorer regions of the Italian south. One of the key ingredients of Italian culture of course is its cuisine, made from fresh ingredients. The Marchй Jean Talon is an anchor point in this community where local residents can purchase fresh produce, cheese, meat, pastries and other products. This market is different from others since its layout is mostly outdoors. More than 100 producers display their products here in the summer, and the market has a distinct southern ambience to it. You almost feel like you are somewhere close to the Mediterranean or even a Moroccan souk.

I wanted to grab a seat in a little local restaurant beside the market, but most of them were so packed that I decided I was going to hop on the subway again (easy to do with my convenient 3-day visitor pass) and check out the St-Denis area a little. Definitely time for a late lunch!

Celebrity stylist shares secrets for terrific hair

Hair care expert Tim Rogers, who has among his clients Yoko Ono, Missy Rayder, Diane Sawyer, Kelly Gray, Samantha Boardman and Amanda Peet, combed through some of the secrets he gives celebrities when they have a bad hair day and came up with a few you may use:

Q. Any advice on how I can take better care of my hair?

A. Wash hair no more often than every other day. Water can be very drying to hair, exacerbating frizz and static flyaways. Wash with lukewarm water and always follow with a conditioner. Protect color-treated hair. New Results Colour Bright shampoo and conditioner are created specifically for treating and protecting multitonal hair shades. Don't forget sunscreen. The sun's rays can strip away natural oils as well as the pigment that gives hair its color. The sun can weaken hair cuticles, causing peeling, breaking and split ends. Defend hair with a hat and products with UV filters and keratin, for strength and elasticity.

Q. I need a new hairstyle. Can you help?

A. Take advantage of the multitude of virtual stylists on the Internet. Web sites like smartfixx. com offer comprehensive advice from salon professionals. Online, you can access info on trends 24/7. There's step-by-step styling advice in video you can play, pause, rewind and download to see how to get the look you like.

Q. I'm thinking of changing my hair color from blond to red. What's the best way?

A. Redheads aren't defined by "light or dark" but by tone. Consider which works with your skin. Glossing treatments deposit tone without lightening hair for maximum reflection and minimum damage. They're a great way to deliver customized shades of red.

Q. I'm a guy and I really like my new short hairstyle but it requires multiple styling products mostly created for women. Are there multipurpose products men can use?

A. Some really great unisex styling lines-like the new one from Charles Worthington London-have what you need. For short hair, wax sticks or gel strips are fantastic multipurpose options for keeping hair in place, taming flyaways or giving it a textured, spiky look. My favorite products from this Smart Fixx line are the H2O Styling Strips, which you can get at drugstores. Simply add the gel to wet hair with your fingertips. The strips come in a convenient pocket pack for on-the-go styling.

Condition for your hair type, says celebrity stylist Tim Rogers.

Cappuccino - from the plant to the store

Coffee bean production is a worldwide industry, second equal moneywise to petroleum. It is 2000 years old. There are two main types of beans, arabica, first produced on the Arabian Peninsula, and robusta with double the caffeine.

The coffee cherry is not a valued fruit; only its bean is needed. This bean is aged, then roasted, ground and finally brewed to satisfy over 400 million coffee drinkers worldwide.

There are two colors, red and green. The red has more aroma, lower acidic levels and produces better coffees. This element is critical.

The majority of beans are picked by hand, but only as fast as just three-ish baskets a day. They are skilled at separating green and red beans, and their skill influences our final product.

Once picked, the fruit is separated from the cherry. The fruit is soaked, scrubbed and then rubbed mechanically. Then they are washed to remove excess residue. The beans are dried on big concrete or rock type slabs until they contain only 12% of their original water content - fermentation.

They are sorted mainly by machine. Some are rejected. Others are quickly rubbed to remove the skin. The better beans are then aged for 3 to 8 years. The rest will be roasted within the year.

To give the varied flavors, the beans double in size as they are roasted (400° F). They dry, crack and go brown, releasing their flavorsome oils.

Varied techniques ensure proper roasting. Java and Kenya beans enjoy a light roasting, by way of example. The beans release carbon dioxide gas for a few days or by being packed into perforated shipping bags.

A few weeks later, the beans are ground. Huge burrs (grinders) crush them to a uniform granule. Choppers produce a less even granule. Turkish coffee is made by pounding the beans into a fine powder.

Whichever granules you choose, brewing is the last step. Better brewing machines produce a better cup of coffee. There are four processes involved. These include the boiling, the level of pressure, the gravity, and the ability to steep.

Boiling water is rushed through the coffee grounds, filtered and settled. For espresso, the pressure of the just below boiling point water as it is forced through the grounds is imperative. With the common drip coffee makers, the level of gravity of the hot water as it drips on the grounds and through the filter is important. The steeping process relies on big bags of granules, very much like large tea bags. The better the perforations in the bag, the more easily the hot water can penetrate and produce the desired cup of coffee.

The sometimes laborious and long trip the coffee bean takes from mountainous or jungle regions worldwide to the final grounds in your stores, is worth the wait. The final product is one that is prized worldwide. New research is assessing the pros and cons of coffee drinking, moderate being the best. It is another reason why coffee is so well loved.

Spotting and playing against the aggressive poker player

Nowadays, a new kind of poker player is developing. They are the backwards players, tilted backwards and they have one significant attribute that can be appreciated because they have no idea what a nut means. These players are not inexperienced players. They will usually understand draw odds, they know the fact that on a high percentage all other players won’t start with cards that are considered to be the nuts and that players don’t keep a hand that is probably locked. Backwards players aren’t just plain unintelligent. They can develop into good players but they still have to learn. And they hold their money dearly, so they will believe every time that all the players they encounter will do the same with their stacks, that no one will ever risk to lose money for playing them or follow an important purpose.

A backward player will do mostly the opposite of what an experienced player does usually. They will be aggressive most of the times, excepting the situations they have a winning hand. They are players easy to tell, they do what in real poker a scared player does. Once they see an opportunity of winning, they get scared of losing and hold that hand dearly through safe and passive play. So, according to this pattern a backward player that has something will mostly check or bid less when he has a real hand that can aim for the pot. Of course, this seems to any one a bad even crazy idea, to bet less when you actually can win. They are minimizing their winnings through their behavior at the poker table. If they can get to the right table they can actually make a profit out of their gaming style. The right table for a backward player is a table where all players are tight and take no chances, a table where people will fold every time the backward player raises in his usual style.

So, take advantage of the existence of the backward player and go on a hunt for them. They are quite easy to spot. All you have to do is look for that particular table where you can see a player that has a stack much bigger than all the others and that player just keeps on betting his huge bets.

To play a backward player you must know his two great fears: when he is being checked-raised and when he has the winning hand and no one calls. He is not a player that bluffs, he just wants everyone out of the table and will bet as much as he can afford to get them out.

If you check raise a backward player you will let him know that you know his style and you are willing to risk everything just like him because you know you can make a huge profit. He can go all-in here if the is hoping for a draw, fold if he truly has nothing or check when he thinks (and he will probably do this) you will let him be on the turn and the river.

A backwards player, once losing his stack through many consecutive re-raises from you will not give up. He will keep on coming back and if you manage to get his money every time you will get his entire bankroll. So you will get rich in just one poker room in a couple of hours if you can find your backwards player and check-raise him often until he is completely messed up.

5 tips for successful bird watching

Can you name the number one spectator sport in North America? It’s not baseball, figure skating or racing. It’s bird watching. That’s right, more people are watching birds than football and hockey combined. With so many people hoping to see a bird they’ve never seen before, it’s not surprising to see a clamoring for the latest tips and tools to get the job done. Here are my top five tips for getting the most out of your birding experience.

#1. Get to Where the Birds Are! This sounds obvious, but many birders spend the majority of their bird watching time and energy on poor locations. Some folk have the advantage of looking out of their windows into the back yard to observe nature’s best. The rest of us need to get moving. I would highly recommend visiting a National Wildlife Refuge. There are over 500 of them across the United States. To find one near you, visit refuges. fws. gov/

#2. Know What Species to Expect. There are approximately 900 species of birds in the United States and recognizing each of them is nearly impossible. So when you visit an area, do a little research first. You may find that perhaps only a few species actually inhabit that particular area. With a little preparation, you will be able to more readily identify bird species from each other. Keep a list of successfully viewed species – we’ll call this tip number two and a half.

#3. Get a Great Pair of Binoculars. Spending time and money to get to the right place can be totally wasted when your binoculars are inadequate. If you have an inexpensive pair of binoculars you are not getting the most out of your viewing. Today’s technologies come at a price and they provide crucial benefits in wildlife viewing. For instance, image stabilization will keep your view from shaking-very important when watching from a long distance. Other cool features include anti-fogging, low-light viewing and wide-view characteristics. Additionally, binoculars with built-in digital cameras enable you to identify birds once you get home. These benefits will definitely enhance your bird watching. A great pair of binoculars will turn a mediocre experience into a great one. You can count on it!

#4. Practice Before You Go. A key to viewing wildlife, and especially birds, is to have the ability to very quickly put your binoculars on target. Many people have difficulty finding a full moon in a pair of binoculars-but alas-learning to focus on a bird in a bush or track a bird in flight is easy for someone who has practiced prior to their outing. Try this before you go; lower your binoculars to your side and very quickly raise them to find and follow a jet airliner across the sky. After only a few attempts, you’ll get good at quickly acquiring your target. Quite often, birds are visible for only a few seconds, practice to become proficient.

#5. Take Someone with You. Life is always better when shared. Not only do you get to spend time out of doors with someone you like, but they might alert you to the “Number One Sight of the Day.” Share your birding experiences with your friends and family. Pass the birding excitement to a child.

The best part about wildlife viewing is that you the viewer, control almost every aspect of the experience. The more you are prepared, the more rewarding your time in our backcountry will be.

Recapture the lost glow of your skin by stopping smoking

The first 'accessory' that is required to stop smoking is within you - your commitment! Without this, no tangible results are possible! All your habits, good or bad will have a direct bearing on your body and mind, and skin is an all-embracing part and therefore, it assumes priority! Whether smoking has something to do with skin care? Definitely yes! Even the hard-core smokers will admit to this fact.

Stopping smoking will benefit the skin. Well, almost immediately! For, there is no doubt that smoke, tar and nicotine are all drying agents and contain carcinogens. Its harmful effects are beyond dispute. So, the glow or dullness of your skin has something to do with the smoke that you inhale.

Therefore, the decision to quit smoking should be firm and irrevocable! Just as a wavering candle can not withstand a storm, a wavering mind will not be able to quit smoking! Our food intake, the quality and content, is bound to show on our skin. Look at the face and observe the skin of a young adult who is smoking for the last, say, 8 to 10 years. The strong effects will definitely show; wrinkles are the sure indicators. The skin will look aged.

The overall blood circulation is also affected due to smoking. The outer layers of the skin are the first to suffer the maximum damage. The reason is not too far to seek. Oxygen supply and nutrients are deprived to the skin, so also the Vitamin A, which is of utmost importance to the health of the skin. It is the beginning of decay of elastin and collagen, two substances absolutely necessary for the elasticity and strength of the skin.

Exercises are generally for good of the body; they are for its health and shape. But this smoking exercise is the most damaging, taken from any angle! How many times a smoker opens and closes his mouth, while smoking just one cigarette? While inhaling pursing of the lips is involved. And you squint your eyes to escape from the smoke. Will it not contribute the fast arrival of more and more wrinkles? The heat generated from the burning cigarette, as it becomes smaller and smaller, will definitely change the color of the lips. No smoker's lips have ever been rosy. The black patches on the lips look very dirty and unappealing!

So, the conclusion is obvious. Try to recapture the lost glow of your skin, which is only possible by quitting smoking-not now and then-once for all!

The society

Every high school has certain groups. Van Doren was no different. It was a preppy school to say the least, and their “Groups” were based on social status.

The Society was a group of teenagers from the most affluent families in Whitenburg. Felicia Whitenburg was the leader of this group; she was as brutal as she was beautiful. Everyone feared her, partly because her grandfather built the town, and her family owned practically everything in it, and partly because they were afraid of what she would do if she were crossed. Everyone did what Felicia said.

The school administration knew that there were questionable things going on in their school, however, in this community, everyone was very tight lipped.

The teachers had very little control of the Society club students; they would take cell phone calls in the middle of class, and walk out whenever they felt the need to.

The Teachers would take the cell phones and report the students to the office; however, nothing was ever done to end the problem. Taking the cell phones would only result in angry phone calls from parents.

They knew that Felicia set the tone for the other students, and tried to impress upon her the responsibility of being a leader. For their efforts, Felicia only smiled.

Meetings with the parents of the Society club students left the administration frustrated.

Their pompous attitudes did nothing to instill the basic life skills that every teenager needs to go through life.

The Worst of all the parents was Lawrence Whitenburg. In his eyes, his daughter could do no wrong. She was daddy’s little girl in every sense of the word. He actually had the gall to praise his daughter’s leadership abilities. This outraged the headmaster.

Only one of the parents seemed to be remotely reasonable. Stephanie Whitenburg. Felicia’s mother.

Mr. Preston, the school’s headmaster, decided to try and contact Stephanie to try to put an end to her daughter’s rule over the school. He placed a call to the Whitenburg residence and set up a private meeting with Stephanie Whitenburg.

In The meeting, Mr. Preston voiced all of his concerns to Stephanie Whitenburg. She was horrified to find that her daughter could yield such authority. He realized that he sounded harsh, but drastic measures needed to be taken. He had heard that something was being planned and felt no good would come of it,

When they began discussing options, Stephanie inquired how Mr. Preston planned on obtaining the information that was needed to find out what the big plan was. They discussed several options, and when Mr. Preston mentioned installing listening software on Felicia’s phone. The only thing he needed was parental consent. Stephanie was outraged.

She hit him with a barrage of words, realizing now who Felicia was modeled after. She informed him that she had no intention of giving consent and threatened to have him removed from the school if he persisted in targeting her daughter. She left his office abruptly, slamming the door behind her.

Knowing full well what the ramifications would be, Mr. Preston went ahead with his plan to find out what was about to happen. He felt justified because other students of lesser social standing may be in danger.

After finding and ordering the software through the Internet, he waited for an opportunity. It came the same day as the listening software.

Mr. Preston confiscated Felicia’s cell phone in the corridor and told she could pick it up at the end of the school day. She replied with a cold stare.

He quickly went into his office, locking the door behind him. He told his secretary that he did not want to be disturbed. He went to work installing the software, amazed at how simple it was to do.

At the end of the day, Felicia appeared at the office to retrieve her phone. When Mr. Preston attempted to caution her of the use of cell phones on school property, she turned her back and walked away.

The listening software proved to be a very effective tool. Mr. Preston listened to each call and found out that the big event was a hazing for lower class students, to be held at the quarry.

He informed police, and when the night that the event was to take place came around, all the necessary precautions were in place. The party was broken up, however, no one was arrested.

Mr. Preston was called to the Dean’s office the following day. He was met by the School committee, The Dean, and Lawrence Whitenburg.

The committee felt that his actions were excessive and that the matter should have been handled internally with no police involvement. He was promptly dismissed from his position.

As he was getting into his car, Lawrence Whitenburg approached him.

“What is the name of this town?” he asked smugly. “It surprises me that a man of your stature would not at least take into consideration that I would be informed of anything that may take place.” He turned and stepped into the limo that was waiting for him.
